On the front of the tower, Xie Jueya wrote: "he is the pioneer of the people's revolutionary cause, and his heroic spirit lives forever between heaven and earth.". Later, it was changed to Mao Zedong's handwriting: "the people's heroes are immortal.". The other three sides are engraved with inscriptions describing the history of the revolutionary struggle in Western Anhui, and red stars are erected on the top of the tower. Garden History
West Anhui is a red land, the hometown of the Red Army and the cradle of generals. It is an important part of the Hubei Henan Anhui revolutionary base and the birthplace of the Red Army's Fourth Front Army. Deng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng, Xu Qianqian, Xu Haidong, Guo Shushen, Cheng Zihua, the proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation, and other places that had engaged in personnel revolutionary activities and battles in their early years. In China's long years of revolutionary struggle, the heroic people of West Anhui, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of China, fought bravely, and more than 300000 outstanding sons and daughters died for the party and the country. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, there were more than 26000 registered martyrs, including Xu Jishen, Shu Chuanxian, Zhou Weijiong and Liu Pixi. The blood of the revolutionary martyrs spilled over the land of West Anhui. They wrote brilliant poems in the history of Chinese revolution with their precious lives. In order to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs forever, the party and the government built the martyrs' cemetery in the important town of revolutionary martyrs (now Lu'an City) in 1953.
The martyrs' cemetery in West Anhui truly records the history of the people's revolutionary struggle in West Anhui. As early as 1922, the Party established an organization in this area. After the failure of the first domestic revolution, the party organization mobilized the masses to carry out armed struggle step by step. In 1929, the Liuhuo uprising broke out in Lu'an and Huoshan areas of Western Anhui. Shortly after that, the revolutionary base areas in Western Anhui gradually formed, and connected with the border areas and Southeast Areas of Hubei and Henan. The revolutionary base areas in Hubei, Henan and Anhui, centered on the Dabie Mountains, were formally formed in the arduous struggle. Since then, the party has established Soviet regimes at all levels in the base areas, and the political and legal institutions including the revolutionary court and the political security bureau have become an important part of the regime.
In the memorial hall of revolutionary martyrs in the martyrs' cemetery, a map marked with a red route is particularly eye-catching. This is the route map of Liu Deng's army marching into the Dabie Mountains. In June and July 1947, Liu Deng's army successfully crossed the Yellow River, leaped into the Dabie Mountains, and began the glorious journey of chasing the Central Plains.
In 2007, with the great attention and strong support of Lu'an Municipal Party committee and government, general Hong Xuezhi's life photo exhibition was solemnly displayed in the Dabieshan revolutionary history museum on March 30. On April 4, two large-scale sculptures, Osmanthus fragrans blooming everywhere in August and leaping into Dabie Mountain, were successfully unveiled. In order to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese people's Liberation Army (PLA) and show the elegant demeanor of the generals in Western Anhui and their great achievements, a large-scale relief sculpture of 108 founding generals from western Anhui was completed and unveiled on August 1, 2007. At the same time, inscriptions by Party and state leaders, copies of poems by famous martyrs and messages from celebrities in the martyrs' cemetery area in Western Anhui Province were successfully completed. With the gradual improvement and implementation of the memorial building facilities of the martyrs cemetery in West Anhui, it will further improve the development of red tourism in West Anhui.
The predecessor of Wanxi martyrs' cemetery is Wanxi martyrs' Memorial Hall. In 1952, under the circumstances of great economic difficulties, governments at all levels raised funds of 20000 yuan to build Wanxi martyrs' Memorial Hall. The memorial hall officially opened on October 1, 1953, displaying 24 famous martyrs and precious cultural relics of the whole Province at that time. Among them, Wei Yechou, an important leader of Fuyang "4.9 uprising", and Wang Buwen, Cao Yunzhen, Liu Pixi, the early leaders of Anhui Province of the Communist Party of China. From 1956 to 1957, a 300 square meter Memorial Hall for martyrs, a 16 meter high memorial tower for martyrs, a memorial square and a four story trapezoidal guardrail wall around the square were built, and evergreen trees such as pines and cypresses were planted on the roadside and open space. After the smashing of the gang of four in 1976, the memorial hall was set up again, with 427 heroic deeds selected from tens of thousands of martyrs on the list in Western Anhui Province. The materials are complete and the influential martyrs (above the county and regimental level) are exhibited. In 1989, the West Anhui martyrs memorial hall was renamed the West Anhui martyrs cemetery. After decades of development, the West Anhui martyrs cemetery now has many memorial facilities, such as martyrs memorial tower, memorial Pavilion, memorial temple, martyrs' deeds exhibition hall, 108 generals' deeds exhibition hall from West Anhui, bronze statue of martyr Xu Jishen, one of China's 33 proletarian militarists, memorial square and so on. From the beginning of its establishment in 1952 to 1980, the library has carried out three large-scale activities of collecting revolutionary cultural relics, and the quantity and quality of the documents in the library are among the top in the province. Since its establishment, the old generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Zhu De, Liu Bocheng and Hong Xuezhi, social celebrities such as Zhu Yunshan, Huang Wei and Zhao Puchu, international friends such as the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, North Korea and Vietnam, and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have come to visit, pay homage to, inscribe and leave messages.
In 1989, the cemetery was approved by the State Council as the key protection unit of the national martyrs memorial building; since 1991, the cemetery has been established as a patriotism education base by the Ministry of civil affairs, Anhui Provincial People's government, the Political Department of Nanjing Military Region, Hefei Artillery College, Anhui Provincial Armed Police Corps and Wanxi College; in 1995, it was listed as the first batch of patriotism education base in China by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee In July 2004, it was named "national defense education base of Anhui Province" by Anhui Provincial People's government and Anhui provincial military region, and the martyrs' cemetery in West Anhui was listed as an important scenic spot on the "excellent red tourism route of Dabie Mountain" by six ministries and commissions including the national development and Reform Commission.
