Jinxian gate tower
Jinxian gate is located between the east gate and the north gate of Jieyang ancient city. It was built in 1622 A.D. in the first year of Tianqi in Ming Dynasty. Jinxian gate tower was built in the first year of Tianqi in Ming Dynasty, 388 years ago. Jieyang has four gates in the East, West, South and North, and Jinxian gate is the fifth gate, which is rare in ancient city architecture. Therefore, the door to the palace, to enhance the meaning of the sages, it is called "enter the door". Jinxian gate, which has a history of 380 years, is the landmark of Jieyang ancient city. It is called "Qiao Lou Xiao Jiao" in the "eight ancient sceneries" of Jieyang.
building structure
Jinxian gate is divided into two parts, facing east. The city building is divided into three layers, the lower layer is the urn gate, the building is magnificent; the middle layer is the city building: the upper layer is the glass pavilion, the cornice is tilted, the Zhu column is carved, elegant and magnificent. The gate tower is 16.77 meters high and is of pure Chinese fir structure. On the first floor, there are five rooms with three entrances and four living windows. There are two pavilions on both sides of the South and North. The roof is warped all around. The upper floor is octagonal pavilions, and the roof is octagonal glass roof. The whole building is simple and generous, which is the best in Chaoshan ancient city gate. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were watchmen on the city tower. Whenever the waning moon slanted to the West and the dawn began to appear, the watchmen sounded the horn of the morning. The sound of the horn spread all over the city with the morning wind. Therefore, the name of "Xiaojiao of qiaolou" came into being.
origin
Jinxian gate is located between the East and north gates of the old Jieyang City. It was built in the first year of Tianqi in the Ming Dynasty (1622 AD) and has a history of 380 years. Because Jieyang ancient city does not have four gates in the East, South, West and North, but five gates. The extra gate is Jinxian gate, so it is not an ordinary gate.
There's a lot to learn about the origin of Jinxian gate. According to the legend, there were seven famous sages in this area in the Tang and Song dynasties. With their extraordinary wisdom, they decided that this place was suitable for building a city gate, so they carved a stone plaque of "Jinxian gate" and buried it underground. Hundreds of years later, in the Ming Dynasty, there were seven famous sages here. They chose this place to build the city gate. They were thinking, "why didn't the sages find this treasure land?" they dug up the stone plaque. Therefore, Jinxian gate is regarded as "the first seven sages" and "the last seven sages", which makes it an extraordinary gate. "Jinxian" means "promoting the virtuous", which fully expresses a good wish of the people. However, because the three character plaque of "Jinxian gate" has not been signed, there is no textual research on who and when it was inscribed, which adds a trace of mystery to the building.
No matter whether Jinxian gate is so "extraordinary" as it is said, Jieyang people's respect and love for it is true. In the 1940s, because of the need to transform the old city, the ancient city wall and the four gates in the East, South, West and North were all removed, leaving the Jinxian gate alone. This shows the position of the gate in the eyes of Jieyang people.
It is said that in the early years, local officials in Jieyang had to walk through the gate of Jinxian to get a good intention. When a man in Jieyang marries a wife or a student goes to a higher school, he has to go through the door of entering a virtuous family. If so, his wife will be virtuous and his students will go to high school. This custom is still maintained today. Parents often bring their children who are about to take the university entrance examination to Jinxian gate for a walk or a few circles around the city.
Construction history
The road around the city was built in 1937. Although the city wall was destroyed, the buildings remained. After liberation, the county government allocated funds to repair and restore the original appearance. The repaired tower is 20 meters high, 19 meters wide and 8 meters deep.
In 1985, a pair of stone lions were placed in front of the city tower, surrounded by a flower garden, and a sculpture of water spray lotus was nearby, which matched the antique city tower. With the government's funding for repairs and planting of flowers and trees, the ancient "Xiaojiao" scene has been rejuvenated and become a good place for the public to have a rest. Pei Wenxi, a poet of Jieyang, has a poem, which praises the entrance of the virtuous gate. It says: carved beams and painted buildings of the ancient city have gone through hundreds of vicissitudes. Dress up to welcome the flourishing age, lotus water more quiet.
In 1992, jinxianmen was declared as a municipal cultural relics protection unit by Jieyang municipal government. However, hundreds of years of wind and rain erosion has made the ancient city building lose its style. Ant infestation, wind disaster and long-term motor vehicle vibration have seriously damaged its beams, corner columns, doors and windows, paint peeling and external appearance. According to the appraisal of the Municipal Housing Administration Bureau, Jinxian gate has become a dangerous house and is in danger of collapse at any time. Just after the Spring Festival, the renovation of Jinxian gate began. Lin Wuyuan, director of Jieyang Museum, who is in charge of the repair work, told the reporter: "this is the largest repair of Jinxian gate in Jieyang history, and the city has allocated more than 700000 yuan for this purpose."
At the end of 2005, the cultural relics department of Jieyang City, under the leadership of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, set up a special leading group to invite relevant provincial experts to carry out on-the-spot investigation and research, and worked out the rescue maintenance plan. It decided to carry out the overhaul and repair of jinxianmen tower, with an estimated investment of 780000 yuan, in order to restore the ancient and elegant style of jinxianmen tower.
On February 25, 2014 (Jiawu year), the nearly 400 year old jinxianmen tower in Rongcheng was repaired again. Bamboo scaffolds were set up around the city building, the floor tiles of sidewalks around the square were chiseled off, and the temporary wall of color steel plate was set up around the square to enclose the whole square. A warm reminder was put up at the construction site: "the renovation project of jinxianmen city building and square has started. Please do not enter the dangerous construction site for tourists and leisure citizens. Please understand the inconvenience caused to you."
According to reports, the Jinxian gate tower and square have been eroded by wind and rain for a long time and are aging. In order to better protect the cultural relics, they should be repaired. The project is mainly divided into two parts, one is the reinforcement of the building body, including termite removal, cleaning, repair and painting according to traditional technology, painting, plaque gilding, etc.; second, the repair of the building square, including the repair of sidewalks and flower beds. The renovation project will be completed by the end of June and will take about 120 days.
It is reported that the Jinxian gate tower was built in 1621 A.D., which was initiated by Zeng Yingrui, the magistrate of the county. It was rebuilt in 1700 A.D. and rebuilt in 2002 A.D. The tower is based on Jinxian gate, facing east from the West. It is 20 meters high, 19 meters wide and 8 meters deep. The main body of the tower covers an area of about 166 square meters, which is a three story pavilion with a sharp top. The first floor is a Square Pavilion, both north and South are out of the building, and the walls of the north and South corridors are decorated with living windows. 2、 The third floor is octagonal, each floor has red inner columns and eaves columns, and the surrounding is flower window gallery wall. The roofs are covered with green glazed tiles, and the feet are decorated with carved wooden faucets and lotus columns. The structure of the tower is rigorous and magnificent. It is one of the eight ancient sceneries in Jieyang. It was announced as the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Jieyang City on March 5, 1993.
