Historical evolution
Huludao port is located in Longgang District of Huludao City. Backed by Beijing Harbin railway and highway, it has a special railway line directly to the port, and is surrounded by mountains on three sides in the northeast and West. It is not only a natural haven, but also a famous non silting and non freezing port at home and abroad. Huludao port is deep and wide, and now it is used for military and commercial purposes. There are two 5000 ton berths and three 10000 ton berths for commercial use, with an annual cargo handling capacity of 3 million tons. On January 21, 1999, the State Council approved the opening up of Huludao port to the outside world, which is limited to international shipping.
A long time ago, Huludao was desolate and populated. According to research, its name began in the Liao and Jin Dynasties. It was called "Taohe island" in Liao Dynasty, and later changed to "Huludao".
Huludao port was first built in 1910. Later, due to the revolution of 1911, the construction of Huludao port was suspended. In 1913, construction started again, but it was stopped for lack of funds. In 1929, general Zhang Xueliang, then commander of the northeast frontier army, inspected Huludao and decided to build the port again. In January 1930, he signed a contract with the Dutch port company, which is expected to be completed in five and a half years. On July 2, general Zhang Xueliang personally visited Huludao to preside over the commencement ceremony of port construction. After the meeting, a grand unveiling ceremony of the monument was held. Han Baiyu's monument is 1.8 meters high, with "Huludao port construction started" engraved on the front. The inscription was written by general Zhang Xueliang himself. The September 18th Incident resulted in the premature death of the Huludao port construction project, but the monument to the commencement of the port construction still stands on the West hillside of Huludao.
After occupying Huludao, the Japanese aggressors decided to rebuild Huludao port in order to transport a large amount of material wealth and resources plundered from Northeast China to the mainland. By March 1940, most of the projects had been completed gradually. So far, Huludao port had an annual throughput capacity of 1 million tons. After November 1945, the Kuomintang troops occupied most of Northeast China. Huludao port not only failed to get its due construction and development, but also was used as an important transportation port in the civil war.
Huludao was liberated in November 1948, and the port was rebuilt and utilized, especially after the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee. After the founding of new China, Huludao port has become an important military port in China. In 1960, Bohai shipyard was built and put into operation, becoming an important base of China's shipbuilding industry. On December 6, 1984, Huludao port was opened to the public. Approved by the State Council on January 21, 1999, and officially opened to the outside world on May 17, 2000, it has become a national first-class port.
