Built in the northern and Southern Dynasties, Cuiyan temple is one of the famous temples in Jiangxi Province. Together with Xiangcheng, Shuangling, Yunfeng, Fengsheng, Anxian, Liutong and Panlong, it is the "eight famous temples in Xishan". During the Wu period of the Tang Dynasty, the temple was renamed Hongjing, and then Cuiyan. In the Southern Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Cuiyan Guanghua Academy. After the Northern Song Dynasty, temples gradually declined, and Ming Dynasty even abandoned them as dwellings.
In 1650, Huixi and kexuejiu, the monks of Xiangcheng temple, proposed the restoration of the temple. Xiong Wenju, the Minister of officials, and Chen Hongxu, the governor of the state, praised the restoration. They also invited the ancient snow master to preside over the temple affairs. All parties met their fate and raised huge funds to recast the Buddha Sakyamuni and all the Bodhisattvas, and renovated the temple. Pilgrims began to flow to the temple in unprecedented splendor. During the Anti Japanese War, some temples of the ancient temple were burned by the Japanese invading army. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the temple was repaired, and Lei Shisen, a local stone worker, was asked to engrave "Amitabha" on the cliff below the Hongya Pavilion. Later, it was destroyed in the chaos of war. In the early days of liberation, it was time for monks to go to the temple.
During the cultural revolution, the old temple was demolished again. After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, the party's religious policy has been implemented. In 1991, Cuiyan temple was officially opened. In 1977, he invited a jade Buddha from Myanmar and a Guanyin Bodhisattva from Fujian, and rebuilt the Mahavira hall. In the spirit of Buddhist Compassion, Cuiyan temple has established Buddhist clinics, nursing homes, libraries and other charity institutions.
The ancient temple is full of light, the morning bell is renewed, the Sanskrit sound is loud and clear, the pilgrims are like a tide, reappearing the grand occasion of "eight famous temples in Xishan". There is a poem as proof: Cuiyan temple is still famous, and eminent monks from Tang and Song Dynasties come to all directions. Famous officials write poems to praise the scenic spots, and the emperors treasure them. The flood well in front of the gate is still there, and the Vatican Palace has been abandoned. Spring is coming to see a new look, majestic palace and grand atmosphere.

Yingxiao hall, on the back peak of the temple, was built in an unknown year. It is famous for its many Wall poems. Since the Tang Dynasty, celebrities such as Liu Yuxi, Mou Rong, Cao song, Ouyang Xiu and Yue Fei have written poems on the wall. In front of the hall, there are nine sections of bamboo, thousand year old orange and crane nest pine.
Miaogaotai is in front of the temple. Zhang Shangying, the endless resident of the Northern Song Dynasty, visited the temple. Baoning Yuanji, the monk of the temple, was in the middle of the journey. Their questions and answers formed a good poem, which was later inscribed on miaogaotai.
Huiquan, in the back of the main hall, springs out from underground cracks. Due to the upward escape of underground gas, the springs make regular "goo, goo" sound. The spring water is clear and sweet. It is a good mineral water. There is a "true source Pavilion" on the spring, and a couplet is engraved on the pavilion column: "the lamp is always bright, and all the five implications are empty, the spring water is clear, and the washing is not clean.".
