geographical position
Located at the east end of Jiefang East Road and the west end of Ziyou Road, it is the earliest bridge across Lijiang River in Guilin city. Founded in 1939, when the Anti Japanese war was flourishing, Guilin was repeatedly attacked by enemy planes. In order to evacuate the urban population, a steel wood truss deck bridge was built, named Zhongzheng bridge. The bridge is 181 meters long and 11 meters wide, with 5 holes and 36 meters span per hole. It has a wooden deck with a load of 10 tons. In October 1944, the Japanese invaders came over the border and bombed the 2 and 3-hole bridges. In July 1945, when the occupying forces were defeated, No. 2 and No. 3 steel beams were blown up. The Zhongzheng floating bridge was built in February 1946. In July 1951, the steel and wood truss structure was rebuilt at the original site and renamed Jiefang Bridge. It was repaired twice in 1957 and 1962.
Bridge structure
In 1972, Jiefang Bridge retained its substructure, strengthened its piers, demolished its superstructure, widened its deck, and rebuilt it into an open spandrel concrete double curvature arch bridge. Its total length is 239.3 meters, including 215.3 meters of main bridge and 14 meters of approach bridge; its height is 4.36 meters, with 5 holes and 34.9 meters of span for each hole; its deck width is 15.5 meters, including 9.5 meters of lane and 3 meters of North and south of sidewalk; its load is grade-13 and grade-60 respectively. After the expansion, the cross-strait traffic has been greatly facilitated, making great contributions to the people's life and production in Guilin.
history
According to the records of the library of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, since the Tang Dynasty, floating bridges have been built in this section in all dynasties. It is recorded in the picture of Jingjiang Fucheng in Song Dynasty that Dongjiang Bridge (Tuoban bridge) was built near the current Jiefang Bridge, which is not a bridge in the strict sense. It is connected by the hull and often shakes badly because of the turbulent current. After the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was renamed Yongji bridge.

Due to the inconvenience of shipping between the two sides, the Zhongzheng floating bridge was built in February 1946.
Jiefangqiao in 1951
In July 1951, due to many problems of the bridge, the local government decided to rebuild the steel and wood truss structure of 1939 on the original site, and changed its name to Jiefang Bridge. Two routine maintenance were carried out in 1957 and 1962. Reinforced in 1972
In 1972, the municipal government decided to retain the substructure of Jiefang Bridge and strengthen the piers, then demolish the superstructure and widen the bridge deck, and rebuild it into a two-way four lane open spandrel concrete double curvature arch bridge.
According to the local chronicles, the bridge is 239.3 meters long, including 215.3 meters for the main bridge and 14 meters for the approach bridge; it is 4.36 meters high, with 5 holes and 34.9 meters for each hole; the width of the bridge deck is 15.5 meters, including 9.5 meters for the lanes and 3 meters for the north and south of the sidewalk; the load is grade-13 and grade-60. Reconstruction in 1999
In 1999, Guilin municipal government decided to demolish the old Jiefang Bridge and rebuild a larger and more convenient Jiefang Bridge on the old site.
On the morning of September 28, 2001, Jiefang Bridge was officially opened to traffic. The main bridge of the new Jiefang Bridge is 284 meters long and 45 meters wide, with three major arcs and two small arcs. Among them, the motorway is 22 meters wide, with two-way six lanes and a higher sidewalk on both sides. There are auxiliary roads at both ends and bottom of the bridge, which can pass through the two arcs of the bridge.
Jiefang Bridge, together with the reconstruction of Wenchang bridge, Longyin bridge and the reconstruction of Minzhu Road, has been included in the reconstruction system engineering of Jiefang Bridge. After the completion of Jiefang Bridge, the traffic burden is greater than before. The east end of Jiefang Bridge is seven star park. Because it is too close to the park, it causes great inconvenience at this intersection.
humanity
In the early days, there were often bamboo rafts under the bridge. Fishermen on the bamboo rafts used cormorants to fish for them. In the misty weather, it was like a fairyland. In the early primary school language textbooks (people's education six-year primary school language Volume 11 "Guilin landscape") have related description.
In 2004, due to environmental problems, the water level of Lijiang River in jiefangqiao section was often too low, sometimes even dried up. In the busy season, the citizens like to swim and play under the bridge.
The newly built Jiefang Bridge is more spacious and its structure is simple and reliable, which is praised by the citizens and tourists. At night, the lights on both sides of the bridge will be turned on. Citizens like to walk here, while tourists take photos on both sides of the bridge.
