Wanjiaba ancient tombs
Wanjiaba ancient tombs are located on the platform to the east of Wanjiaba village in the south of the city. From October 1975 to January 1976, the provincial cultural relics team organized excavation, covering an area of about 3300 square meters. 79 tombs were excavated, including 13 large tombs and 66 small tombs. Among the 1245 funerary objects unearthed, 1002 are bronzes, and the rest are pottery, wood, jade, agate, amber, turquoise, etc. There are 45 industrial tombs, which can be dated from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the early spring and Autumn period, and 34 class II tombs, which are equivalent to the late spring and Autumn period to the Warring States period.
Among the unearthed cultural relics, five bronze drums are the most precious. According to the measurement of carbon 14, it is more than 2300 years ago, which is the earliest bronze drum excavated in the world. It is called "Wanjiaba" type in the classification of bronze drums. Experts believe that Chuxiong is the birthplace of ancient bronze drum.
At the same time with the bronze drum, there are also six sets of sheep horn chimes. There are square holes in the upper part of the bell body and sheep horn shaped buttons, which are very different from the chime bells unearthed in the Central Plains. It has important reference value for the study of the formation and development of the ancient pentatonic and pentatonic scales in China.
