It is said that a long time ago, there was a local temple. By the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the local temple no longer existed. Instead, there were two small temples belonging to the gama Gaju sect (one of which was a nun Temple), and the Red Palace of zawutou people. In 1398, the great Lama of Sakya sect in Tibet was dangqinwa jiaangxiraojianzan (1376 -?) With the support of zawutou, the monks and nuns of the original Kaju sect were forced to move to other places, and dangqinwa built Jiegu temple on the basis of qulai building. The more famous ones are Lama nangga, who has written five books, such as Prajna paramita interpretation. Lama Caijiang is a famous doctor in Yushu; Lama rihuo, who is good at history, has written records of dari Tathagata Buddha Hall and records of cultural relics in Tibetan areas.

The origin of the temple
Located on the East Jiegu mountain of Jiegu ancient town in Yushu, the Tibetan name "Jiegu dunzhuleng" means "Jiegu yichengzhou". It is the main temple of Sakya sect in Qinghai Province. The main buildings are: 2 sutras halls, 220 monk houses, and the main building "Duwen zhoujiacuo" can accommodate 100 sutras. The temple of preaching scriptures, the hall of Jokhang, the hall of Maitreya, the hall of Jiana and the hall of Wenbao living Buddha all have their own characteristics. There is "the largest manidui in the world". Manidui is made of Mani stone with six characters "ah Mani Bami moo", which is translated into Chinese "ah! Buddha on the rosette! Oh Some mani stones are also carved with Scriptures or Buddha statues, and countless mani stones are arranged together to form a series of stone walls. There are 260 million mani stones, forming a Mani stone city. The temples are well arranged and towering over the hills. The Mani stone mound of Jiegu temple is famous all over the world. In his later years, the first living Buddha of Jiana settled in Xinzhai village in Zhendong and built mani mound here, which is called "Jiana mani mound" and "Xinzhai mani mound". With the passage of time, the volume of Mani mound here has become larger and larger. More than 2.5 billion mani stones have been accumulated in more than 200 years, which can be called "the largest mani mound in the world" and has become an excellent representative of Tibetan religious culture.

On December 1, 1937, the ninth Panchen Lama died here. Jiana Buddha is the largest living Buddha in the temple. Jiegu temple was opened on October 30, 1980. At present, there are 2 Scripture halls, 220 monk houses, 136 monks (1 inner living Buddha), 239 cattle and 6 horses. Genggajiang is in charge of temple affairs. The temple is now a key cultural relics protection unit at the provincial level.

During the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, Kublai Khan's national teacher, basiba, passed through Jiegu area and began to convert local temples gradually. In the Ming Dynasty, Jiegu Temple finally became a Sakya temple.
There have been many eminent monks in the history of Jiegu temple, the most famous of which is probably the living Buddha of Jiana. When he was young, the living Buddha had traveled and practiced in India, Sikkim, Tibet, as well as Mount Emei, Mount Wutai, dajianlu and other places in China. He was proficient in Chinese and other languages. It also laid the foundation for Xinzhai mani city to become "the largest mani pile in the world". Jiana is also versatile, and has created more than 100 kinds of dances, which are called "seeking excellence through multiple roofs". This is the origin of Yushu's becoming a famous hometown of Tibetan songs and dances. In addition, the ninth Panchen Lama, quejinima, died in this temple on his way back to Tibet in 1937.
