Shimen plank road scenic spot is the location of Shimen Reservoir. It is the hometown of Baosi, and is known as "the hometown of plank road" in China. Shimen plank road is the most famous part of Baoxie plank road. Baoxie plank road is 235 km long. Shimen Reservoir is the third generation of Baogu water conservancy project after shanheyan and Baohui canal. Shimen Reservoir, built in the late 1960s, was the first and highest reinforced concrete double curvature arch dam in China at that time, with a height of 88 meters, an arc length of 260 meters and a storage capacity of 109.8 million cubic meters. It is a large (II) reservoir integrating farmland irrigation, flood control and power generation, and aquaculture. Stone carvings in Shimen

In history, after the opening of the stone gate, the officials, merchants and literati of the past, while enjoying the famous sites, wrote down things and expressed their feelings, and engraved them on the cliffs inside and outside the stone gate for generations, thus forming the magnificent stone carvings on the cliff of the stone gate. From the Han and Wei dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, these stone carvings are a treasure house of stone carvings. In particular, the Eastern Han Dynasty "Ode to Shimen", "gunxue" and the Northern Wei Dynasty "Shimen Ming" are important stone carving materials for studying ancient politics, military affairs, transportation, science and technology, water conservancy and culture, which are of great value in the history of Chinese calligraphy. The Japanese calligraphy circle is known as "Hanzhong Shimen, the teacher of Japan". In 1961, the site of Baoxie Road, Shimen and its cliff carvings was listed as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.

In 1970, when the Shimen Reservoir was built, thirteen of these stone carvings were chiseled down and now displayed in Hanzhong City Museum (ancient Hantai). Shimen is located in the south entrance of Baogu, 20km north of Hanzhong City. It is cave shaped, north-south, on the West Bank of Baohe River, parallel to the river. The east wall of Shimen is 16.5 meters long and the west wall is 15 meters long; the south entrance is 3.45 meters high and 4.4 meters wide; the north entrance is 3.75 meters high and 4.1 meters wide. The tunnel and the plank road are on the same horizontal line. There is no trace of axe chiseling in the cave. It was made after being heated by fire and water. There are several opinions about the time of stone gate excavation, such as the sixth year of Yongping of Ming emperor in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 63), Liu Bang in the early Han Dynasty and the excavation of Qin people. Baohe Shimen plank road is one of the earliest artificial traffic tunnels in the world.

Zhandao, known as "the Ninth Wonder of the world", is the most dazzling cultural boutique of Shimen. With a total length of 235 km, Baoxie plank road was a military hub connecting the north and the south in ancient times. People often say, "it's hard to walk along the Shu Road, but it's hard to get to the sky.". Since the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, in order to surmount the natural danger of Qinling Mountains, the ancients drilled holes along the cliffs of the river valley, with beams as beams, standing trees as columns, and wooden boards and railings as plank paths. With the construction of Shimen Reservoir, the ancient plank road sank in the vast Crystal Palace. With a total length of 3.6 km and an investment of 9.87 million yuan, the antique plank road will be restored one by one in various architectural forms, and the glory of the plank road will reappear. The terrain of the valley is complex. In order to open up roads on the steep cliff, the ancient laborers created various road forms according to different terrain. "Flat beam column type", "stone foundation type", "multi-layer flat beam column with shed cover type", "thousand beam without column type" and other shapes are reflected in this section of plank road.

After leaving the ancient capital Chang'an, walk along the Baoxie road to Baogu at the south end. Here, the two mountains face each other, the wall is thousands of feet high, and the current is fast, which becomes an obstacle of Baoxie plank road. "Historical records" records: "plank road thousands of miles, omnipotent, only Baogu wanhu (w ǎ ng ū) its mouth." As early as the sixth year of Yongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Liu Zhuang of the Han and Ming Dynasties issued an imperial edict to rebuild the Baoxie plank road.
