Wakouguan
The ancient battlefield of the Three Kingdoms - wakouguan, also known as "wakouai", is located in shuangshanya in the northeast of Langzhong City. According to Baoning Fu Zhi, "wakou pass is located 15 Li East of Cangxi, with a beautiful peak and a long-distance view. It is a place where Zhang yingtun's troops are stationed.".
Along the ancient official road from Langzhong to Hanzhong, there are many horseshoe shaped pit marks on the stone stairs and stone slabs. According to the local farmers, they are made by Zhang Fei's horses. To shuangshanya, there are overlapping peaks, ravines and cliffs. On the mountain, there was a stone wall, about 2 meters high, 10 meters wide and 1000 meters long. In the middle of the city wall, there is an arched stone gate, which is engraved with the big character "wakouai", and there is an inscription on the wall built during the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty. More than ten years ago, due to the construction of water conservancy projects, the city walls and stone arches were demolished. Now only the traces of the wall and the lime marks of the wall can be seen.
There are still stories about Zhang Fei's bravery around wakouguan. The Qipanshan Mountain near wakouguan is said to be the place where Zhang Fei plays chess. There is a Yingpan Bay under the pass. It is said that it is the place where Zhang Fei pretends to be drunk and scolds Zhang Ying, the general of Wei who guards the pass, to lure him to fight. The 70th chapter of the romance of the Three Kingdoms gives a vivid description of this, which is called "fierce Zhang Fei and wise wa Kou AI".
