Historical evolution
Suxian temple is located at the top of Suxian mountain in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province.
During the reign of Emperor Wen of the Western Han Dynasty, Su Dan became an immortal here, and later established the Taoist temple in the Tang Dynasty. Later, it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. The central hall is dedicated to Su Xian, and there are wing rooms on both sides. Behind the view, there is a huge stone, which is called "Shengxian stone", also known as "cross crane platform". In the past, Su Dan crossed crane to rise to immortality.
Suxian temple is located in the south of the north, covering an area of 82.2 meters from the north to the South and 41.5 meters from the east to the West. It was originally built in the Tang Dynasty with a brick and wood structure and a pavilion style three entry veranda Taoist temple, with a total construction area of 2464 square meters. This view was granted many times by the Tang and Song dynasties. Since "in the 19th year of Kaiyuan (731) of Tang Dynasty, the imperial edict decorated the ancestral hall", it has been repaired in Song Dynasty. It was destroyed by the war at the end of Yuan Dynasty, and rebuilt in Ming Dynasty. In 1884, the main hall was rebuilt again, and then repaired many times.
Each time, the main hall was kept higher than the wing room, and the two wings were two-story buildings. The main hall is in the architectural style of big roof, four corner cornice, rhinoceros head powder wall, small green tile and Huiwen window. The site selection, building scale and structure have been carefully studied. It is the highest temple in all counties of Chengui. On the forehead of the gate, there is a white jade stone stele named Panlong, which was given by Emperor LiZong of Song Dynasty in 1264. It was written by Emperor LiZong of Song Dynasty: "Chifeng Suxian zhaodezhenjun". It is 100 cm long and 50 cm wide, with a diameter of 5 × 6 cm. It is written straight and in regular script. It is said that Su Dan, a native of Chen in the Han Dynasty, crossed cranes to become an immortal on the top of Suxianling mountain. According to the book, the emperor of Tang Dynasty once built a "spirit gathering Temple" to offer sacrifices. In the Song Dynasty, Emperor Zhenzong granted Su Xian the title of "the imperial edict granted Pu Ying Jing Hui Zhao de Chong Su Zhen Ren". During the ten-year Cultural Revolution, all the Bodhisattvas, sculptures, cultural relics, iron bells and other facilities in the temple were destroyed, and the Anyu gaiwa was also seriously damaged.
A new look
In 1978, the people's Government of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province appropriated 593000 yuan. Zeng Ziquan, an expert in ancient architecture, came to Chen for on-site investigation and design. According to the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, it was rebuilt: the original main building foundation was not changed, and the civil structure was changed into reinforced concrete imitation wood structure, with a repair area of 1886 square meters. Add 83 square meters of viewing platform to form an antique architectural style of "Xiongzhou's new appearance, Nanling's scenery". The gate was changed into a memorial archway of Song Dynasty style in the West. On the forehead of the gate, the inscription "the 18th blessed place in the world" was written, and on both sides, the couplet "under the cloud and rock, between heaven and earth" was written. Today, the temple has painted pillars and carved beams, green tiles and red columns. The architecture is exquisite, majestic and solemn. It has the potential of "Jinbi tower leaning in the air", reflecting the wisdom and superb architectural skills of the ancient working people.
After the restoration of Suxian temple, the central hall is the main hall, the East chamber is called Nanhai, and the west chamber is called Xihu. The two small rooms in Nanhai, where patriotic general Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned, are now turned into Qu general's rooms. The main hall is divided into three halls. In the middle of the upper hall, there is a statue of Su Xian's childhood. On the two walls of the middle and lower hall, there is a legend of the magical story of "the fragrance of orange well spring". The characters are lifelike with different shapes. The front door of the hall is engraved with the eight characters "Feng Su Xian Zhao De Zhen Jun" in white marble.
The whole building is antique and full of national color. There is a flying Pavilion in Shengxian stone. Inside the pavilion, there is a relief of crane crossing, which tells the story of Su Xian's crane crossing. Wang Lan, founder of Shanghai Xiangzu painting and calligraphy society and painter of Chen nationality, invited Wang Zhen, a famous Chinese painter, to make a white drawing of Su Xian's crossing crane in 1934 (23 years of the Republic of China), which was engraved on a blue stone tablet with a height of 167 cm, a width of 78 cm and a thickness of 12.5 cm. There are seven unique inscriptions on the side: "Liufang Jue Jing chants Su Xian, but he is not willing to fly away. I heard that when I was called, one day the white crane was dancing. "
On July 26, 1994, Suxian temple was transferred to Chenzhou Buddhist Association (later renamed as Chenzhou Buddhist Association) for management, and the Management Office of Suxianling scenic area terminated the management of Suxian temple.
