Xinghai Square

Dalian Xinghai Plaza is the largest city plaza in Asia, built to commemorate the return of Hong Kong. The square is oval in shape, larger than the two Tiananmen gates. The Central Avenue runs through the center of the square. Once the largest white marble watch in China stood, it has been demolished. 999 pieces of Sichuan Red Marble scattered in every corner of the square, engraved with tiangan dizhi, 24 solar terms and 12 zodiac, highlighting the traditional Chinese culture.

In Xinghai Square, you can not only enjoy the huge Chinese watches, music fountains, all kinds of sculptures, but also enjoy the sea view and night view. In the major festivals, we can also meet the female mounted police riding horses to see their valiant and heroic posture; in summer, Dalian beer festival will be held here, and the whole square will turn into a carnival resort.

Xinghai Square

Located in Shahekou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, China, Xinghai Square is an open-air square in the southwest of Dalian City, a major construction project commemorating the return of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to China, and one of the landmark buildings of Dalian city.

Xinghai Square was built on July 16, 1993 and put into use on June 30, 1997;

Historical evolution

On July 16, 1993, to commemorate the return of Hong Kong, the Xinghai Bay reconstruction project started. Dalian municipal government used construction waste to carry out land reclamation project and planned to build Xinghai Square.

On June 30, 1997, Xinghai Square project was put into use.

On August 5, 2016, Huabiao of Dalian Xinghai Plaza was demolished.

On December 18, 2018, the lighting project of Xinghai Square was carried out.

position environment

Xinghai Square is located in the middle of the southern coast of Shahekou District, Dalian, on the Bank of Xinghai Bay. It is about 1km away from Baiyun Mountain in the East, 1km away from Xinghai Park in the west, 1km away from Xinghai Bay Bridge in the south, and 4.5km away from the center of Dalian in the north. The main road through the square is Zhongshan Road.

Overall layout

There are three circular roads in the middle of the upper ground level of Xinghai Square, which divides the square into three landscape levels; two parallel roads run through the long axis of the square, and two X-shaped roads intersect with it, which is divided into six parts; the landscape of Xinghai Square is divided into four parts: Xinghai Square, fountain scenic area, Centennial city sculpture square and central lawn.

Design features

Xinghai Square adopts the curve style, with a circle in the middle of the oval road network. The inner circle is 199.9 meters in diameter, implying the 100th anniversary of Dalian in 1999, and the outer circle is 239.9 meters in diameter, implying that Dalian will usher in the 500th anniversary of the founding of the city in 2399. The central star square is a circular square with three terraces on the high ground. The layout of the central part draws lessons from the design concept of the circular mound of the temple of heaven in Beijing It is made of 999 pieces of Sichuan red marbles. The marbles are carved with the patterns of heavenly stems and earthly branches, 24 solar terms and 12 Chinese zodiac. In addition, there are nine tripods with different shapes. Each tripod has a big character of Wei Dynasty stele, which together form the nine big characters of "long live the great reunion of the Chinese nation". The center of the red marble is decorated with a large yellow Pentagon Star, and the Yellow Sea in the north of Xinghai Square, form a scene of the intersection of star sea, which is used to symbolize the "Xinghai Bay" and the combination of red and yellow to symbolize the Chinese people.

Design parameters

The North-South long axis of Xinghai Square is 1010 meters, and the Northeast short axis is 630 meters. The total area of the square is 1.76 million square meters. The inner circle diameter of the square is 199.9 meters, and the outer circle diameter is 239.9 meters. The important lawn covers an area of 850000 square meters, accounting for 77.3% of the total area of the square. The Centennial city sculpture covers an area of about 75000 square meters, with a pavement area of 250000 square meters, accounting for 22.7% of the total square area, including 45000 square meters of central star shaped square and 75000 square meters of Centennial city sculpture square.

Pool landscape

The water landscape of Xinghai Square is distributed in the central star square, Centennial sculpture square and the road in the middle of the square, which adopts two main forms of fountains and flowing water. Among them, the peripheral water landscape is arranged along the circular graph, with a total of nine groups of music fountains, and the water landscape of the central pedestrian Avenue has a total of 50 groups of color music fountains, each group of music fountains is exquisitely carved by eight groups The granites in this area are composed of round shapes.

 

As of October 2018, Xinghai Plaza music fountain has a diameter of 140 meters and a maximum spray height of 88 meters. It adopts eight patented technologies and presents a shocking performance of "sound, light, electricity and fire". Green landscape

Apart from the paved ground, other parts of Xinghai Square are occupied by lawns. A large number of hedges are planted on the lawns to trim the patterns of traditional Chinese style. At the same time, in addition to the lawns and hedges, a small number of trees are planted on the outermost ring road of the square to separate the square from the external road, and play a cooling role for tourists and citizens.

 

Sculpture landscape

There are many sculptures on Xinghai Square, mainly including Centennial city sculptures, bronze sculptures and modern sports sculptures

There are six groups of bronze sculptures, including 2 groups of female mounted police bronze sculptures, 2 groups of roller skating bronze sculptures, 1 group of concert bronze sculptures and 1 group of children's bronze sculptures. In addition, there are 40 groups of competitive sports sculptures on the edge of the outer ring of Xinghai Square.

 

The Centennial sculpture square is located at the southernmost end of the north-south axis, and the huge book sculpture is located in the south by the sea, which is the commanding height of Xinghai Square.

 

The 80 meter long relief of copper casting footprints collects 1000 pairs of footprints of representatives of various ages and industries, which are used to show the continuous progress of Dalian people in the past century.

Xinghai Plaza is equipped with corresponding service facilities such as seats, toilets, drinking fountains, kiosks, vending machines, and electric amusement facilities. Among them, there are five public toilets in the Plaza, all of which are on the ground floor of the Plaza. The road of the Plaza fully embodies the barrier free design. A large number of blind roads are paved. The width of the road meets the needs of walking wheelchairs. The curb ramp is used between the sidewalk and the roadway To facilitate the passage of wheelchairs and disabled people.

There are eight types of lights in Xinghai Square, including 72 stepping stone column lights, 65 step height lights, 64 geese lights, 55 Huadeng lights, 40 seagull lights, 12 balance lights, 11 high pole lights and 5 palace lights.

 

As of January 2019, there are about 300000 strings of landscape lights, 6500 sets of lamps, 7000 sets of wall washing lamps, and more than 5000 decorative iron trees in Xinghai Square. A total of 65000 extension meters of wires and cables have been laid, and more than 40 temporary distribution boxes have been installed.
