Gutianshan National Nature Reserve is located in SuZhuang, 30 kilometers northwest of Kaihua County, 30 kilometers away from the county, adjacent to Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province. It is named Gutian Mountain because there are fields by the side of the mountain, ancient forests deep in the mountain and Gutian temple in the forest. It is one of the 72 caves in Guangxing. In 1975, it was listed as one of the 45 nature reserves in China.
The main protected objects are the world's rare and endangered species of pheasant, black muntjac and their original forest ecosystems.
Historical evolution
The predecessor of the reserve was Gutianshan logging field established in 1958. In 1973, the logging field was changed into a logging field. In May 1975, the people's Government of Zhejiang Province approved the establishment of Gutianshan Nature Reserve (with an area of 1367.7 hectares). In September 1979, the State Council announced Gutianshan as one of the first batch of 45 nature reserves in China. In order to strengthen the protection of natural resources, the nature reserve was expanded in 1998 and promoted to the National Nature Reserve in June 2001 with the approval of the State Council.

Located in the mid subtropical monsoon climate zone, it is greatly affected by the summer monsoon. The climate has obvious seasonal changes in a year. The climate is characterized by warm winter and cool summer, warm and humid.
Management status
Gutianshan National Nature Reserve has been promoted to National Nature Reserve since 2001, and the Reserve Management Bureau has been set up. Focusing on the rescue, maintenance and development of rare and endangered species, it has established a four level protection network system from the Management Bureau to the protection points, completed the comprehensive scientific investigation of the reserve, and completed a series of related special researches with white necked pheasant and black muntjac as the main research objects After that, we sorted out the report of comprehensive scientific investigation of Gutianshan National Nature Reserve and other natural resources investigation and scientific monitoring.
From July 11 to 12, 2008, an expert from the national nature reserve evaluation research group headed by Jiang Mingkang, a researcher of Nanjing Institute of environmental science, Ministry of environmental protection of the people's Republic of China, accompanied by the leaders of provincial environmental protection and forestry departments, made a special trip to evaluate the management of Gutianshan National Nature Reserve in Kaihua County. The management of Gutianshan Nature Reserve has passed the review of the expert group.

Botany
In the floristic composition, it has the characteristics of North and south, and is a typical transition zone from South China to North China, some of which are only or rare species in China and Zhejiang Province.
According to the survey data over the years, there are 1991 species of higher plants belonging to 897 genera and 244 families, among which 14 are endemic to China. In Zhejiang flora, only 10 species are found in Gutian Mountain, such as Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Photinia fukiensis, Styrax Wuyuan, etc.; 32 species are rare and endangered, including 1 species of national first-class key protected plants, 14 species of national second-class key protected plants, 14 species of provincial-level key protected plants There are 17 species of rare and endangered plants, especially three species of rare plants, namely, Emmenopterys henryi, Michelia yedoensis and Arnebia purpurea.

There are 77 species of amphibians and reptiles, 142 species of birds and 58 species of mammals. Among them, there are 37 species of national key protected animals (including 4 species of national first-class key protected animals including pheasant, black muntjac, leopard and clouded leopard, 33 species of second-class key protected animals including pheasant, black bear and Kitten), and 36 species of provincial key protected animals. In addition, black muntjac is the largest of the two concentrated distribution areas in China; white necked pheasant is the area with more concentrated distribution and large number in China; this area is also the main habitat of the national second-class protected animals, such as silver pheasant and black bear.

There are 1156 species of insects belonging to 759 genera, 191 families, 22 orders, among which 164 species belong to 37 families, 11 orders, 24 species are named after Gutianshan and 6 species are named after Kaihua.
