Yulingting kiln site is a world-class ancient kiln site, with a green hill on its back and a stream in front. According to the collected porcelain pieces, the bowls here are thick in fetal bone, simple in shape, dark and bright in glaze color, with rabbit hair pattern, which is very similar to the black gold glazed bowls unearthed from Shuiji kiln in Jianyang, one of the famous ancient kilns in China.
Yulinting kiln site
Yulinting kiln site is one of the largest and best preserved ancient kilns in Song Dynasty. Located in the northwest of Wuyishan City, 5 kilometers north of Xingcun town, close to the beautiful lotus peak in the north of Wuyishan, with a distribution area of nearly 60000 square meters.
Brief introduction of kiln site
There is a stream flowing from south to north. Along the stream, there are six small hills, with tens of thousands of saggers and bowl mats, some as deep as 3-5 meters. Surrounded by mountains, there are streams flowing into Chongyang River and ancient roads leading to the urban area of Wuyishan. The waste kiln deposits are distributed on 8 hills from south to north, covering an area of about 60000 square meters, with a thickness of 1 to 5 meters. The kiln was found in 1959 and has been reexamined many times since. Most of them are well preserved.
Kiln site experience
From 1998 to 1999, in order to cooperate with Wuyishan's application for the world natural and cultural heritage list, in October 1998, with the approval of the Provincial Department of culture, a rescue archaeological excavation was carried out at Wuyishan, and a major field archaeological harvest was obtained. The topsoil of nine large planks was stripped 30-50 meters, and the stone based platform of the workshop was built with bricks. The ancient kilns of Song Dynasty are the "Jianyao" series of black glazed tea sets. According to the unearthed cultural relics, many of the tea bowls and tea cups at that time were "rabbit hair" and "top-grade products", and even fragments of gold and silver colored porcelain bowls, which are known as "treasures of the world", were found. This is a great achievement in the field of ceramic Archaeology in China. There are two kilns: No.1 kiln is a "dragon kiln" built along the slope, with a total length of 73.2 meters. Each kiln can produce about 50000 pieces of porcelain. The structure of No.2 kiln is the same as that of No.1 kiln. It is also built along the slope, but it is longer, more magnificent and larger than No.1 kiln. The total length of No.2 kiln is about 113.1 meters. This kiln can hold 80000 pieces of porcelain at a time, and its output is amazing. The main products are black glazed ware, which is also used for firing green and green white glaze. The fetal bone of the product is light gray, gray white and gray brown. The shape of the ware includes bowl, dish, washing cup and so on. The sagger firing technology is adopted, and the firing time is Song Dynasty. Most of them are black glazed bowls.
In 1961, Fujian Provincial People's Committee announced that it was a provincial cultural relics protection unit. In December 1999, Wuyi Mountain was listed in the world cultural and natural heritage list by UNESCO, and the yulinting kiln site is one of its important contents.
