About the park

Weiwuying metropolitan park is located in the center of Kaohsiung metropolitan area with high traffic accessibility. It is also adjacent to a complete cultural and educational facilities and a national arts and culture center. It integrates multiple functions such as transportation, commerce and leisure. In the future, it will have multiple functions such as leisure culture and education, cultural performance, health and physical fitness. No matter in adjusting the ecological environment and building an art base, it is a place close to home and very suitable for providing people with leisure and entertainment.

The park is divided into natural exploration forest area, roaming Road, dream park area, urban garden area, camouflage paradise area, camp base, and Weiwuying art and culture center. The west side is Zhongshan expressway, with one entrance in the north, two entrances in the East and two entrances in the South; the north entrance is located in Ziyou Road, next to Weiwuying station of the MRT Orange line, and another bus terminus is Jianjun station. In the future, there will be Weiwu station of the MRT Fengshan line at the east entrance, which can be reached by many buses, and it is also located next to the national highway interchange, so the traffic is convenient.

The logo of Weiwuying metropolitan park is mainly constructed with the prefix "W" of "Weiwuying". The high wall wire coils, which used to be serious and mysterious in the military region, have now become green leaves and vines. With flowers and birds coming, this metropolis is full of happiness and vitality. In the ingenious transformation and elegant shape, in the memory of history and exploring the meaning of hope, the logo itself witnessed the past life, present life and afterlife of Weiwuying.

Park history

In the Qing Dynasty, it used to be a swamp. In the "map of Taiwan" at the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was marked as "fengtanpan, a garrison with a total of 300 soldiers", indicating that it was a military important place at that time. During the Japanese occupation period, it was built as a "Fengshan warehouse" as one of the bases for southward migration. After the restoration, the National Army changed it into a military training center and logistics supply unit. In 1979, the military conference ruled that it was no longer used for military purposes, and the battalion began to be reorganized and abolished. In 1992, a public hearing on the establishment of a university or park in Weiwuying was held. With the help of the Weiwuying Metropolitan Park Promotion Association, it was determined to be a metropolitan park. Before the start of construction in 2006, activities such as paintball were held in the remaining empty barracks. By 2010, most of the barracks had been demolished. At present, Weiwuying art and culture center is still under construction.

Dream Park

The North Lake is located next to the green central lawn. You can see the North Lake when you walk through the tourist service center. Together with the South Lake in the park, it is a special artificial ecological pool in Weiwuying Metropolitan Park, which has the functions of flood detention, landscape recreation and ecological restoration. The North Lake can play a water storage function and avoid flooding. The water can also moisten the soil in the park, improve the water content of the soil and avoid the Drought Crisis in the dry season.

Natural exploration forest area

Natural exploration forest area is an area in the overall base planning that hopes to maintain ecological functions, accounting for nearly half of the park space. Based on the advantages of the original camp planting community formed by highway barrier, it is positioned as a natural experience area to provide a harmonious coexistence system of human and ecology. In the design, the tropical forest and wetland before Weiwu camp became a military camp were gradually presented by replanting. There are observation stations and forest classrooms in specific places, which serve as places for tourists to experience and learn nature.

Camp base

The barracks base completely retains the spatial context of the original barracks to strengthen the historical memory of the Park Barracks, including three barracks, scaffolding, water tower, playground in front of the barracks, barracks code, and the original grid trail. The retained spatial structure is mixed with the elements of modern park, making the barracks base a unique and interesting barracks Park in Weiwuying park.

The ecological teaching center is renovated from three ammunition depots in the original camp. The complete and wide indoor space can accommodate future environmental education activities in the park. The original roof truss is completely preserved, and the architectural appearance is also painted with digital camouflage pattern, which has become a prominent target in the park. The water tower observation platform retains the water tower in the center of the original camp, and a ramp is added around it to allow tourists to circle the water tower and provide a view overlooking the whole area.

Urban garden area

The city garden area is around the east side of the North Lake, mainly hoping to give tourists a deep impression of nature. In the area, there are shimmering lakes, rippling stone streams, winding paths, colorful colors, fragrant grass and flowers, attracting butterflies to dance, and poets to praise nature on the roadside. Visitors only need to open their senses quietly to feel the beauty of nature.

Vanilla park is located near the water stage, elegant fragrance is one of the characteristics of this garden, in which many members of the herb family are planted, as well as many birds and butterflies luring plants.

Camouflage paradise

Inspired by the camouflage totem of military symbols, the design concept of Weiwuying metropolitan park integrating nature, military history and cultural activities is highlighted by the interweaving characteristics of the camouflage totem. The winding curve of camouflage in this area keeps the trees intact. The trees provide people with cool shade and opportunities to hear the chirping of insects and birds, so that nature and human activities can be closely combined. Visitors here can experience the importance and beauty of respecting nature.

Ramble

Daye taohuaxinmulin road is a unique bicycle lane on the roaming road. The promenade is connected to the west of the whole park and separated by a gentle slope from the ecological "high sensitivity area" around the North Lake. The big leaf mahogany forest road is located in the middle of the roaming Road, from south to north, with the grass and shade on the gentle slope on the right and the big leaf mahogany on the left. People can walk in it, or walk slowly, or ride on a bicycle, to get out of a period of leisure and comfort.

Traffic information: the park has one entrance to the north, two entrances to the East and two entrances to the south.
