City walls on the island

The top of Xiaoping Island is Yuhuangding, which is 73 meters above sea level. Connected with it is Chengshantou, which is 53 meters above sea level. In its half waist, there is a wall more than 30 meters long. Facing the sea, there are many bluestones. It is said that in the song and Jin Dynasties, in order to fight against foreign pirates, the soldiers stationed here built this wall. It has been listed as a key cultural relic in Dalian.

At the western end of the city wall, there is a dark brown platform shaped reef more than two meters high standing in the sea. Fishermen call it fishing corner. During the golden autumn season, cuttlefish and Spanish mackerel often come to the shore to look for food. As long as they wrap tin foil on the hook as bait and put it in the sea for a moment, they can attract cuttlefish. The method of hanging Spanish mackerel here is even more peculiar: as long as a streamlined hook made of metal lead and fish hook is thrown tens of meters away, and then the line is quickly retracted, and the hook will swim in the water. When Spanish mackerel finds the hook, it will be mistaken for bait, so it will chase after it and swallow it.

There is also a beautiful legend about this island. Once upon a time, there was no island, only a small fishing village. There lived a fisherman named Haisheng in the west of the village. He had been trained to catch fish and play flute since he was young. One day, when he finished his net and was about to take out his flute, he heard a cry for help. He looked up and saw a clam bitten by a shark. Haisheng shakes the boat quickly and takes the oar to beat the shark away. Suddenly, haihaibeng became a pretty girl, jumped on the bow of the boat, kept kowtowing and married him to thank him for saving his life. Haisheng heard her talk about the cause of the matter: her name is benghua. She often hides in the coral cave to listen to him play the flute. Today, she was discovered by the one eyed shark and chased to the world. She had to force her to be his wife. Haisheng saw that she was deeply attached to herself and accepted it willingly, so the wedding was held that night. The one eyed shark was very angry when he heard about it. He set off a huge wave to submerge half of the village. He also asked the fishermen to send a pair of boy and girl to him on the Mid Autumn Festival. Otherwise, the whole village would be submerged. Just as the deadline was coming, the fishermen were so anxious that they turned around. Benghua borrowed the "sea swallowing bottle" from the Dragon King and put it on the beach during the Mid Autumn Festival. When the one eyed shark ran to the shore, it was sucked into the belly by the bottle, and the tide suddenly receded, and the fishermen could live and work in peace and contentment again.

After a long time, the king of dragon sent the general to ask for the bottle, and said that if he didn't return it soon, he would turn them into rocks. In order not to let the one eyed shark come out and harm the people, they would rather die than return the vase. Angered, the dragon king turned the vase into a big reef like a vase, tightly connected with the land. Mussel flowers have been turned into flowers, while marine life has been turned into trees, growing together in "vases". Since then, every spring in March, green trees and flowers will make the island more beautiful than the vase. In order to thank them for their happiness, fishermen call this big reef "small bottle island" to express their sorrow. For a long time, it is called "Xiaoping Island".
