Bizhao cliff is located in the northwest of Nantianmen, south peak of Huashan Mountain. Here, the East and West rocks are opposite each other, and a groove is formed in the middle. The East rock is tilted forward and suspended in the air, and the rock wall is covered with stone nest like honeycomb. A rectangular grotto was dug between the two sides of the rock, covering an area of about 3 square meters. The entrance of the cave is connected to the west, and a single tree is used as a bridge. It is impossible to enter the cave if the single tree is removed. The word "avoid Zhaoya" is engraved on the forehead of the cave, which is said to be written by Chen Tuan.
Bizhao cliff had no name before the Song Dynasty. Shizhiji was the place where ancient hermits hid precious books. The collection of Huayue records that Taoist Jiao Daoguang lived in seclusion in the Northern Zhou Dynasty. Since the famous hermit Chen Tuan of Song Dynasty evaded the imperial edict, he got this name and became a famous landscape of Huashan. Yanxia road is the only way from Nantianmen to nanfengfeng. In ancient times, it was narrow and steep. The snow under the cliff lasted for a long time every year, and the road was slippery and dangerous. Now, the stone steps have been excavated, repaired and reinforced.
Stories and legends
Chen Tuan, with the name of Tunan, was familiar with various theories, astronomy and geography, knowledgeable and brilliant. Emperor Taizu and Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty issued many imperial edicts to call him to assist the government in Beijing, which were politely declined. In order to avoid the trouble, Chen Tuan just hid in the three hanging niches with no access and only one person. Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty was thirsty for talents. He repeatedly sent local prefects and county magistrate to persuade Chen Tuan with precious medicine and tea, and presented a poem to him, saying: "once white clouds came out in front of him, but later no news was heard. Now if you are willing to follow the imperial edict, you will always give the three peaks to you. " Chen Tuan wrote a memorial here to express his gratitude to the emperor of Song Dynasty and declined it politely. Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty understood that the gold seal in purple robes could not move this man, so he gave up and gave Chen Tuan the name of Mr. Xiyi, meaning that his pursuit of lofty and profound was beyond perception.
