Historical origin
According to legend, manfeilong pagoda was built in 1203, 565 (actually built in the 18th century). The Dai language "tanuozhuanglong" means big head bamboo pagoda. This group of pagodas was designed by three Indian Buddhists and built under the leadership of kumeng Longtou people, Cuba Nanpi and others. It has been restored twice in modern times and has been listed in the national key cultural relics protection units.
On the original rock under the south facing niche of the pagoda, there is a person's barefoot print, which is said to be the footprints of Sakyamuni. Local Buddhist legend says that in the year when Sakyamuni came to Dameng dragon, peacocks flew all over the dam. At that time, he was preparing to build this group of towers, but he didn't know where to build them. When Sakyamuni knew, he stepped on the big Bluestone with his left foot, leaving a deep footprint. People built these towers beside his footprints.
There is an eye spring well in front of the footprints. It is said that when Sakyamuni preached, the weather was very hot and he was very thirsty. He sent seven young men down the mountain to carry water in the stockade. Once all 33 wells were picked up, Sakyamuni showed his Buddhism greatly. He used his Zen to poke a 3-foot-deep hole in the ground, and the hole became a well spring. Slowly, the water came out, and there was a spring well. Therefore, in the past, when Buddhist believers from Southeast Asia came to manfeilong pagodas, they would always throw a few silver coins at the unsatisfied footprints, and each of them would bring a gourd of spring water back.
