Guangxi Provincial Medical College

In the 1930s, Guangxi's economy developed slowly, people's physique was weak, health knowledge was lacking, diseases were widespread, malaria, schistosomiasis, smallpox, cholera, tuberculosis, liver cancer and other diseases were rampant, and there was no government-run hospital in the whole province, only one doctor among about 150000 people, and the disease mortality rate was more than 30%. Dr. Ge Shaolong, the founder of the University, said to the government: "the people of Guangxi are weak and in urgent need of higher doctors.". Therefore, the 105th meeting of the provincial government approved the establishment of the Health Committee of Guangxi provincial government, and appointed Lei Yin, GE Shaolong and Lei Peihong as members of the health committee. He was responsible for the preparation of Guangxi Provincial Medical College, and recruited additional professors such as Zhang Rong, Li zuwei and Meng Xianfeng to assist.

In July 1934, Guangxi provincial medical college was established, and began to recruit six-year undergraduate students in October, which created the precedent of higher medical undergraduate education in Guangxi. It is one of the earliest 22 medical colleges in China. Since then, the name of the school has been changed four times, the school site has been relocated seven times, and the teachers and students have been displaced. In the borrowed houses, cinemas, guild halls and self built thatched sheds, the school has persisted in running the school, "making talents of the province for the use of the province". All the efforts have been made to cultivate senior medical talents in Guangxi Based on the needs of Guangxi minority areas and the school running policy of "strengthening the country, saving the province and strengthening the people".

In February 1937, Guangxi Military Medical School successively set up training classes for military doctors, pharmacists, nurses, stretcher sergeants and gas therapy to support the Anti Japanese war.

In the spring of 1944, due to the expansion of the number of medical experts and professors and the improvement of teaching quality, it was awarded by the Ministry of education and honored as the third in the country.

In the summer of 1944, when the Japanese invaders invaded Guilin, the teachers and students evacuated to Sanjiang, Babu and other places. Every time he moved to another place, he continued to have medical consultation and resume classes until August 1945, when the Japanese army signed a surrender and won the Anti Japanese war. In October of the same year, the provincial government ordered him to be demobilized and returned to Guangxi.

Guilin was liberated on November 22, 1949. Under the leadership of the party, the school established a new order, intellectuals carried out ideological transformation, organized land reform and medical teams to resist US aggression and aid Korea, and learned from the Soviet Union to carry out educational reform.

In 1954, the school moved back to Jintou village, Nanning. The school running environment has been improved, the teaching staff has been expanding, the number of students enrolled has increased year by year, and new progress has been made in teaching and scientific research. During the period of "Cultural Revolution" and "extreme left" line, school work was deeply affected. In 1961, the "60 rules for colleges and universities" was tried out, and the university entered a stage of steady development.

In 1978, it was one of the first nine medical colleges to accept foreign students.

In 1981, he was granted the right to confer master's degree, which is the first batch of master's degree granting units in China.

In 1984, the college obtained the right to confer doctoral degree, which is the first doctoral program in Guangxi universities.

In 1988, we began to recruit doctoral students.

Guangxi Medical University

In May 1996, the Ministry of Education approved the renaming of Guangxi Medical University.

In April 2010, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education.

In May 2013, it was selected as one of the first batch of Pilot Universities for the reform of training mode of clinical medicine master degree.

In August 2017, the "innovation and intelligence introduction base for basic and clinical application research of liver injury and repair" declared by Guangxi Medical University was selected into the national "111 plan". Since then, Guangxi Medical University has become the first university selected into the national "111 plan" in Guangxi.
