Laohehai period

In 1915, Zhang Jian, then the general director of agriculture and Commerce and the president of the National Water Conservancy Bureau, presided over the establishment of Hehai engineering special school. Huang Yanpei was the preparatory Director of the school, and the school officially opened on March 15. Xu Zhaonan was the first principal. Li Yizhi, a modern water conservancy expert who had made the greatest contribution in theory and practice, was recognized by the Chinese water conservancy circles as the school's educational director. This is China's first university specialized in training water conservancy technical personnel, which is subordinate to the National Water Conservancy Bureau and reported to the Ministry of education for the record.

In 1924, Hehai engineering school and National Southeast University established Hehai Engineering University, which is still under the National Water Conservancy Bureau. Mao Yi was promoted to the first president.

In June 1927, Hehai University of technology and National Southeast University formed the national fourth Sun Yat sen University (renamed National Jiangsu University, Jiangsu University and National Central University in 1928). All the students and books and equipment of Hehai University of technology were incorporated into the Civil Engineering Department of the College of Technology (renamed civil engineering department in 1928). East China University of water resources

In 1952, the national departments were adjusted. The water conservancy department of Engineering College of Nanjing University, the water conservancy department of Jiaotong University, the water conservancy group of Civil Engineering Department of Tongji University, the water conservancy group of Civil Engineering Department of Zhejiang University and the water conservancy specialty of East China Water Conservancy College were merged to establish East China Water Conservancy College. In 1960, the University was designated as a national key university by the CPC Central Committee.

From 1960 to 1980, the school opened the majors of naval position engineering and military port architecture to cultivate senior naval professionals.

On November 26, 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.

In 1985, East China University of water conservancy changed its name to Hehai University, restoring the traditional name of "Hehai", and Deng Xiaoping wrote the name himself. Changzhou Machinery manufacturing workers University and Changzhou electric power machinery plant of Ministry of water and electricity are under the leadership and management of Hehai University.

In November 1996, Hehai University was approved as the first batch of "national engineering basic course teaching base" by the State Education Commission.

In December 1997, Hehai University was selected into the list of the second batch of national "211 Project" key construction universities.

In June 2000, the Changzhou Campus of Hehai University was renamed as Changzhou Campus of Hehai University. The school is transferred from the Ministry of water resources to the Ministry of education.

In June 2002, according to the notice of the Ministry of education, the University established the Graduate School of Hohai University and abolished the Graduate Department of Hohai University.

In 2005, the University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education with excellent results.

In 2008, the Ministry of Education approved the implementation of "985 project advantage discipline innovation platform". In the same year, Hehai University cooperated with Jiangsu Daye Investment Co., Ltd. and Wuxi Daye housing construction and Development Co., Ltd. to establish a full-time ordinary undergraduate independent college Wentian College of Hehai University.

In November 2009, the Ministry of education and Jiangsu Provincial People's Government jointly built Hehai University, which became the fourth University jointly built by the Ministry of education and Jiangsu Province.

In 2010, the Ministry of education and the State Oceanic Administration jointly built 17 universities directly under the Ministry of education, including Hehai University. In the same year, the University became one of the first batch of 61 "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities in China.

In 2012, the school signed a training agreement with the hydropower force of the armed police force to train professional and technical personnel for flood fighting and rescue.

In September 2017, Hehai University was selected into the list of the first batch of "double first-class" world-class discipline construction universities in China.

 

In November, the school was awarded the first national civilized campus honorary title. In December, it was selected as the national innovation and entrepreneurship base of university practice education.

 

In March 2018, it was selected into the first batch of "new engineering" research and practice projects of the Ministry of education.
