Datun nature park is one of the six activity centers of Yangmingshan National Park. It was built in June 76 and covers an area of about 55 hectares. In addition to the natural Miscanthus landscape, there are wooden plank path, stone step path, overlooking platform and native Rhododendron restoration area. Rhododendron chrysanthum and Rhododendron Xishi can be seen everywhere. Walking on the wooden plank road on the pond, the water is sparkling, the fish are active, and occasionally there are a few frogs, which is quite leisurely and elegant.
Datun Nature Park
Datun nature park is located between Datun mountain and caigongkeng mountain, which is in the north of Datun mountain near 101 a county road. It was built in June 1976. It covers an area of about 55 hectares and has an altitude of about 800 meters. It has a warm temperate broad-leaved forest with Phoebe bournei as the dominant species. It is rich in animal resources, among which butterflies and birds are the most distinctive. In addition, there are aquatic and hygrophyte communities and coniferous forests left from afforestation during the Japanese occupation.
brief introduction
There are complete footpaths in the park. You can enjoy some unique plants on Yangming Mountain, such as Rhododendron Gaoyue, Rhododendron jiuliumi, water celery, penholder tree and so on. There are also various aquatic plants. There is a pond in the park, and occasionally some wild ducks play in the pond. You can also see Kingfisher flying by when you look up. There are complete explanation boards around the footpaths. Children can visit here by A lot of small plant guides know all kinds of flowers and trees in the nature park, such as azalea, Sakura, Sakura Yosano, Liquidambar formosana, Phoebe bournei, etc. It's a good place to know plants and birds, and overlook Datun mountain, Guanyin Mountain and caigongkeng mountain. It is one of the six activity centers in Yangmingshan National Park.
Miscanthus and Fargesia grow all over Datun mountain. In spring, Rhododendron is in full bloom, a new green. After the middle of October, Miscanthus blooms and bears ears, and silver Miscanthus flutters in the wind, like a wave. The main peak of Tatun is also an excellent place to see the Taipei Basin and enjoy the sunset. Here you can see the Tanshui River, Keelung River and the Shezi sandbank. When the weather is cool, you can also overlook the snow mountains, Dabajian mountain, Nanhu mountain and other places in the south of the Taipei Basin!

On the way, from Lika highway beside qixingshan station of Yangjin highway, follow the index to enter, along the way you can enjoy forest ecology, swamp green space.
ecological environment
Natural park is a park set up to preserve unique natural resources. The so-called "natural resources" include special geology, topography, water, animals, plants and so on.
Datun natural park is located in the basin on the north side of tunshan mountain and the south side of caigongkeng mountain (next to Beixinzhuang and Tanshui bailaka Road). The park is a volcanic basin, with pools and swamps as the main ecological landscape. Because its terrain is a depression in the mountain, with closed trees, stable air flow, abundant water and gas, and many plants. Due to the open terrain, the Management Office of Yangmingshan National Park has opened up a natural park with six kinds of wild rhododendrons in Yangmingshan mountain. The surrounding hillsides are secondary broad-leaved forest, rich in animal and plant resources. The Datun pool under the tourist center is a valley depression, which is filled with water all the year round. There are many frogs in the park, and there are birds in the sky from time to time.
Wild Rhododendron
There are 47000 rhododendrons planted in the nature park. The type, flowering period and origin of these six wild rhododendrons are shown in the table below.
Fructus Corni
Deciduous tree with nodular protuberance on trunk and odd pinnate compound leaves. It belongs to Rutaceae as well as orange. There are many oil chamber glands on the seeds, which have aromatic fragrance. It is the herbivore for the larvae of Papilio nigra, Papilio ornitha and Papilio citri. When it blooms in July and August, butterflies dance on it, which is quite spectacular, so some people call it butterfly tree!
Chrysophyta
Coming up from the Miscanthus in the corridor, I suddenly see a piece of orange on the rock wall. These things look like iron. They are laid together to form a mottled carpet. They feel like flannels. In fact, they are a kind of creature. Ah! It's a creature! Isn't it surprising that it is a kind of algae, belonging to the Chlorophyta. The scientific name trentepohliaurea means golden yellow. When the climate is too hot or too cold, or when the cells are aging, the metabolism of nitrogen is blocked, and the production of chlorophyll is disturbed. It will decompose the original chlorophyll and produce other different pigments, such as yellow carotene, to regulate and carry out the function of photosynthesis. This is a self-defense or regulatory way of life of Chrysophyta. Golden algae like to grow on rocks. The growing place of rocks is a stable environment with small changes. However, it is not easy to retain water. Most of the water is supplied by the moisture in the atmosphere, and the nutrients are brought by the water that seeps through the upper soil. This oil colored mural written by nature can be seen on the rocks, stone walls and even bark in Yangming Mountain area.

A volcanic eruption about 2.5 million years ago formed the primitive Datun mountain. Until about 700000 years ago, another volcanic eruption separated the original Datun mountain into the current main peak, West Peak and south peak of Datun mountain. Therefore, there were no craters at the top of these peaks. Instead, the ancient crater was located between Sanfeng and Zhongzheng mountain. Near the top of the mountain, there are a lot of growing cyanidia glabra and Miscanthus quinquefasciatus, in which there are not many kinds of animals. From 500 meters to 800 meters above sea level, there are warm temperate broad-leaved forests with Phoebe bournei as the dominant species, which are rich in animal resources, among which butterflies and birds are the most distinctive. In addition, there are still coniferous forests left by aquatic and hygrophyte communities and afforestation during the Japanese occupation.
Mushroom Pavilion
Yangmingshan National Park is a national park characterized by volcanic terrain, which contains more than 20 volcanoes. According to lithology and sequence, it can be divided into datunshan subgroup, zhuxiaoshan subgroup, qixingshan subgroup and sulfonzuishan subgroup. In addition, dinghuoqiaoshan subgroup and wuzishan subgroup outside the area are collectively referred to as datunshan Volcanic Group. About 2.5 million years ago, near today's dashunzui hot spring, the underground magma broke through the Miocene Mushan layer and erupted to the surface, forming the primitive Datun mountain. Then, the Datun volcano group was silent for a long time, until about 800000 years ago, the zhuzhushan subgroup erupted first, and thick lava flow formed the basement of zhuzhushan; then, 700000 years ago, a large number of lava flowed out along the Jinshan fault and its derived fractures and small fault layers, forming the main body of Qixing mountain and Xiaoguanyin mountain, while the original Datun mountain was divided into three parts by eruption It is the main peak, south peak and West peak of today's Datun mountain. From 600000 to 500000 years ago, the main active protagonists were Qixing mountain and Datun mountain. The pyroclastic materials from Qixing mountain flowed westward into Zhuzhu lake, isolated the lowlands between the mountains from the outside, and paved qingtiangang to the East. Qianlu mountain and Miantian mountain were formed 400000 years ago; Shamao mountain, a parasitic volcano beside Qixing mountain, was finally formed. After the formation of Shamao mountain, the eruptive activities of Datun volcano group stopped completely, and only the residual temperature of magma caused some famous post volcanic activities.
Phyllostachys pubescens
There are three kinds of cyanidia in Taiwan. Yushan cyanidia grows on the mountain of 2000-3000 meters, Taiwan cyanidia grows on the low and medium altitude to the south of Yangming Mountain, and Baotuo cyanidia grows on the windy side due to the strong northeast monsoon wind, rain and terrain. Because the habitat environment is relatively simple, there are few species of animals, especially mosquitoes, flies, earthworms and spiders.
Wujiemang
Miscanthus sibiricus is well known in Taiwan. In various secondary environments, such as cultivated land, abandoned farmland and collapsed land, Miscanthus sibiricus is the most dominant pioneer. It grows rapidly in clumps, so it often spreads and grows, forming a spectacular high grassland. Especially in September and October, Miscanthus sibiricus is very beautiful. For example, it can be seen everywhere in the hot area, bare land and roadside of Datun mountain. It is strong in nature but afraid of shelter, so it is rarely found in the closed forest. Locusts, spiders and rodents are the main animals inhabiting here. Occasionally, there are some insects, such as katydids, grasshoppers, mosquitoes, flies, spadeworm and ants.
Main peak of Datun
The south peak, the West Peak and the guanzhan mountain on the opposite bank of the Danshui River are all conical volcanic bodies. The south peak, the West Peak and the main peak of Datun were separated from the original Datun mountain (formed 2.5 million years ago) 700000 years ago by eruptive activities. Miantian mountain is the parasitic volcano of Datun mountain. It is a typical bell shaped volcano with elegant mountain shape. It was formed about 400000 years ago.
Entrance of butterfly Gallery
Due to the variety of plants, there are abundant butterfly resources in Datun mountain area. Therefore, a "butterfly Gallery" is planned to be set up in this mountainous area to attract butterflies to forage and breed here by planting various herbivorous and nectar plants for butterfly larvae. This can not only conserve butterfly resources, but also provide citizens with a high-quality eco-tourism route. From April to October every year, there are more butterflies in this mountain area, which is suitable for butterfly tour.
Gracilaria
The black tip leopard butterfly is the most abundant nymphal butterfly in the mountain area from May to August. Its wings are beautiful orange with black leopard like spots scattered on the bottom. The front wing of female butterfly is purple black with white spots, and the appearance of female butterfly mimics the toxic birch butterfly. Its larvae feed on Violaceae plants, so adult butterflies can be seen nearby.
