Ms. Xiu Zelan, born in 1925 in Yuanling, Hunan Province, graduated from the Department of architecture of Central University. In 1949, he came to Taiwan for the railway examination. Xiuzelan was selected as the designer of Zhongshan building because of his outstanding talent in architecture.

The difficulties she has never encountered are: the building is located in the sulfur area, where the geothermal energy is pressing, the soil is soft and hard, and the stone and silt are mixed; the sulfur is highly corrosive, and the general metal is easy to be eroded and rusted by sulfur, which means that she has to give up some commonly used building materials; the construction machinery is simple, and almost all depends on manual work

Because of its important historical significance, Zhongshan building should embody the essence of Chinese classical architecture to the greatest extent. Xiu shine with great splendor believes that architectural design is a knowledge of art and practicality. Architectural modeling should be the expression of architects' innovative thinking. Ms. xiuzelan devoted herself to this. When the Zhongshan building was completed in those years, Taiwan's "new life newspaper" once had such a description: "before the construction of Zhongshan building, she hid in her studio to study, conceive, design and modify, and studied with some friends; after the construction of Zhongshan building, she went to Taipei and Yangming mountain road every day, and worked hard to direct the construction."

Xiuzelan put all building materials into sulfur water before use to check their corrosion resistance. She chooses materials that will not be oxidized by sulfur, such as wood, stone, gold, jade, shell, marble, etc. The pillars, door rings and plaques in the building are covered with a layer of gold foil to prevent sulfur erosion. The whole building did not use a nail. It was all spliced with the traditional Chinese tenon. Today, it seems that all these measures have been successful. But it's a mistake. A large number of paintings presented by many famous Chinese painters to celebrate the completion of the Zhongshan building are now darkened and yellowed by the sulfur air.

Xiuzelan won the Taiwan architectural achievement award for the construction of Zhongshan tower, which is an important milestone in her career.
