Hangzhou Normal School
In May 1906, Zhang fengzhun, the governor of Zhejiang Province, rebuilt the two-level official normal school in Zhejiang Province from the former site of Gongyuan in the provincial capital. The school was completed in the spring of 1906, and started in April. There were excellent normal elective courses, Junior Normal simple courses and gymnastics specialized courses. There were more than 430 students in the junior department and more than 220 students in the senior department.
In 1912, the school was renamed school. The excellent Department of Zhejiang two-level normal school was suspended, and its public science students were incorporated into Beijing Higher Normal School, leaving the junior department to continue to handle.
In May of the Republic of China, the provincial council passed the resolution to prepare for the establishment of provincial normal schools, which changed the primary Department of two-level normal schools into provincial first normal schools.
In 1923, according to the instruction of the Ministry of education, the first normal school of Zhejiang Province and the first middle school of Zhejiang Province were jointly established.
In the autumn of 1928, the second part of the provincial No.1 middle school was changed into a normal training class to recruit junior high school graduates, and the study period was one year.
In 1931, the Provincial Department of education attached great importance to normal education and set up Hangzhou normal school.
After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese war in 1937, the provincial Hangzhou normal school moved to Lishui County, and the provincial Hangzhou senior high school, the provincial Hangzhou junior middle school, the provincial Hangzhou women's middle school, the provincial Jiaxing middle school, the provincial Huzhou middle school, five provincial middle schools and the provincial people's experimental school, which moved in the Hangjiahu area, first formed the provincial temporary joint middle school and established the normal department.
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the provincial temporary joint normal school moved back to yingbai Road (now Nanshan Road) in Hangzhou, and was renamed the provincial Hangzhou normal school.
From 1966 to 1970, students were forced to stop enrolling.
In 1973, the former Hangzhou kindergarten normal school was changed into Zhejiang Normal School, which enrolled students from all over the province and trained music and art teachers.
Hangzhou Normal University
In 1977, the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee decided to establish Hangzhou Normal University on the basis of Hangzhou normal school, while retaining the establishment of Hangzhou normal school.
In April 1978, the "Zhejiang provincial Revolutionary Committee" submitted a report to the State Council, requesting the reconstruction of Hangzhou Normal University on the basis of Hangzhou Normal University. "Hangzhou normal school has been training junior high school teachers since 1974," the report said. As long as leadership is strengthened and teachers and equipment are properly enriched, the conditions for the establishment of a normal university will be met. "
On December 28 of the same year, with the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Education issued the notice on Approving the restoration and establishment of a number of ordinary colleges and universities, approving the opening of Hangzhou Normal University. So far, Hangzhou Normal University, based on Hangzhou Normal University, has become a full-time regular undergraduate college.
The campus, school buildings and most of the staff of Hangzhou Normal University have become the foundation of Hangzhou Normal University.
In 1978, the State Council approved the preparation for the establishment of Hangzhou Normal University. As an undergraduate college, the college mainly trains junior and senior high school teachers.
In view of the need for schools to continue to train primary school teachers in Hangzhou, the municipal government decided to build another Hangzhou Normal School in Changqiao to train primary school teachers. In 1999, it merged with Hangzhou Normal University.
In 1995, the Hangzhou municipal government proposed to the provincial government that Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou Medical College and Hangzhou Institute of education should be merged to form a comprehensive university, but it failed because of the immature conditions.
In 2000, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou Institute of education, Hangzhou law school and Hangzhou arts and crafts school were merged into Hangzhou Normal University.
In 2001, it passed the undergraduate education qualification assessment of the Ministry of education; Hangzhou Medical College (formerly Hangzhou branch of Zhejiang Medical University, founded in 1979) has a history of nearly 100 years, and its nursing education can be traced back to the nurse training school of Zhejiang Guangji hospital in 1917. In 1994, it was renamed Hangzhou Medical College and merged into Hangzhou Normal University;
The Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Medical College (Hangzhou Second People's Hospital) was renamed as the Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Hangzhou Normal University (now the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University).
In 2003, the provincial government issued a document to the Ministry of education, hoping to change the name of Hangzhou Normal University to Qianjiang University (in 2005, it failed to pass the National University Evaluation Committee due to a weak gap).
In 2004, the University obtained the right to assess the qualification of associate professor.
Hangzhou Normal University
In 2007, Hangzhou Normal University applied to change its name to "Hangzhou Normal University", which was approved by the first meeting of the Fifth National College establishment appraisal committee of the Ministry of education. It has been listed in the first batch of pilot institutions for quality certification of studying in China.
On October 13, 2017, Hangzhou Normal University and Alibaba Group signed a cooperation agreement on jointly building "Alibaba Business School of Hangzhou Normal University". Alibaba Group invested another 50 million yuan to upgrade Alibaba business school into an innovative business school with distinctive characteristics of Internet commerce.
In November 2018, the Ministry of Education announced the list of the first batch of excellent traditional Chinese culture inheritance bases, and Hangzhou Normal University was selected.
On March 21, 2019, the university decided to resume the establishment of the Conservatory of music; on May 8, the Conservatory of music was established.

Discipline construction
As of January 2017, the university has one doctoral talent training program serving the special needs of the country, 24 first-class discipline master's programs, and 16 master's degree authorization categories;
It has 6 authorized categories of master's degree in educational leadership and management, a joint program with the University of Canberra in Australia approved by the Ministry of education, and a Sino foreign cooperative master's degree program in Educational Leadership approved by the Academic Degrees Committee Office of the State Council.
