Dulong River Valley

This is a remote and mysterious valley, located in the Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture and Gongshan Dulong Nu Autonomous County in the northwest of Yunnan Province, on both sides of the Dulong River, with the highest altitude of 4963 meters and the lowest altitude of 1000 meters. In November every year, the Dulong Valley almost loses all contact with the outside world. The snow more than ten meters thick blocks all dwellings away from the snow mountain. Only when the snow melts in August next year will the valley be the busiest season. The Dulong River originates in Chayu, Tibet. It winds 150 kilometers from north to south in Yunnan. The average width of the river is about 40 meters. People in Dulong village on both sides of the East and the west "talk across the bank and walk for three days when they meet and shake hands". This is no exaggeration. In some places, it is difficult to hold hands even if they walk for ten days. Because of the rapidity of the river and the slanting of the reef, it is impossible to ferry, so people have to "fly" across the canyon to keep the connection between the two sides of the Strait. The weather of Nujiang gorge is changeable, and the temperature difference between day and night is very big. We should pay attention to keeping warm. The journey from Kunming to Liuku (Nujiang prefecture) is 614km. There are three to five sleeper buses every day, which takes 16 hours. After arriving at Liuku, it takes another 280km to reach Gongshan.

From Gongshan, you can go to Dulong River on foot. The local mountain road is very steep and difficult to walk. You can ask the local porter to carry your luggage on your behalf to reduce the burden.
