Former residence of Feng Daoli

The former residence of Feng Daoli is located at No.2 Beitang lane, Shinian Town, Dongtai City, Jiangsu Province. This is a residential building built in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. With brick and wood structure, the gate faces south, the main hall is three Bay, lattice doors and windows, simple and elegant, covering an area of 624 square meters and a building area of 19.9 square meters. It is the birthplace and long-term living place of Feng family. In 1993 and 1995, Dongtai Municipal People's government allocated special funds twice for restoration. Feng Daoli, named Wutang and Xiyuan, was born in 1782 and died in 1860. He was 78 years old. The terrain of Shinian is very low. The flood came suddenly. There were no fields and no houses, and the people were deeply affected by the flood. Therefore, in his youth, Feng Daoli abandoned his official career and devoted himself to water conservancy, aiming to benefit Sangzi. At the same time, he paid attention to reality. He hired ships to the Yangtze River, Huaihe River, the abandoned Yellow River, Baima Lake, gaobao lake, Hongze Lake and the vast coastal areas east of fangongdi to carry out field surveys, visit local farmers and fishermen, consult relevant water conservancy and hydrological data, and draw hundreds of water conservancy maps. Once, he went to investigate the water system and did not return for three years. The common people praised him for his "great Yu style".

Introduction to former residence

The exhibition of Feng Daoli's life and achievements is on display in his former residence, which introduces Feng Daoli's life-long deeds of water control for the people, as well as some of Feng Daoli's manuscripts and cultural relics such as the square table, bookcase, stereotyped works and Gaoming box used for reading. These cultural relics were all preserved by Feng Daoli and his mother, Ms. Tai Changling. In addition, the three Water Dragons of wubentang water dragon club built by Feng Daoli in 1836 are also displayed in the room. On the brick screen at the end of neishiyong, the former residence, there is a portrait of Mr. Feng Daoli. On both sides of the portrait is a couplet written by Wei Yuan, a great thinker of the Qing Dynasty, when he visited Mr. Feng Daoli. According to the couplet, the painting of sandalwood has been starved and drowned in one volume; with the transformation of Xunyang City, thousands of families have no litigation or clamor. There is an open space in the southeast corner of his former residence, where a brick Observatory was built. Feng Daoli observes the sky all night. The long cylindrical telescope, compass and other instruments used by Feng Daoli still exist in the 1960s, which is rare in the closed Qing Dynasty. Feng Daoli's tomb is in an open space on the west side of Shiyan town construction company, surrounded by brick walls, which are well protected. In 1995, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's government, Feng Daoli's former residence (including wubentang Water Dragon Club) has been listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit.
