The monument to the five martyrs of Huanghuagang is located on the Bank of luochong bridge in the suburb of Pingnan. In 1911 (the third year of Xuantong), on March 29 of the lunar calendar, Sun Yat Sen and Huang Xing led the Guangzhou Uprising and attacked the governor's office of Guangdong and Guangxi. Twenty eight patriots from Pingnan took part, and five people died, including Wei tonghuai, Wei Tongling, Wei Shumo, Wei rongchu and Lin Shengchu (all from Duxing village in Danzhu). In 1935, the people of Pingnan built a monument to the five martyrs of Pingnan. On the base of the monument, the names, ages and deeds of the five martyrs were engraved to commemorate them forever. From a long distance, you can see the towering figure of the monument standing on the Bank of the river. On April 27, 1911 (March 29 of the lunar calendar), Huang Xing, the main leader of the alliance, organized the "March 29" Guangzhou Uprising and led the revolutionaries to attack the governor's office of Guangdong and Guangxi in the Qing Dynasty. After the failure of the uprising, 72 dead martyrs were buried together in Huanghuagang, Guangzhou. Five of the 72 martyrs are from Pingnan. They are Wei Tongling, Wei tonghuai, Wei Shumo, Wei rongchu and Lin Shengchu. In 1935, according to the wishes of the Pingnan people, Huang Weifang, the head of Pingnan County, built this monument in recognition of the revolutionary spirit of the martyrs. The monument is square, slightly larger at the bottom and about 10 meters high. On the top of the front of the monument is the title of "monument to the martyrs of Pingnan County". On the middle seat are the inscriptions of "eternal glory", the inscriptions written by Huang Weifang, the county magistrate, and the names of the martyrs. The inscription clarifies the significance of the "March 29" Guangzhou Uprising to the revolution of 1911 and praises the dedication of the five martyrs in Pingnan.
