Development history

Taohua river is a small river in Taojiang County, Hunan Province. Although the river is small, it is very famous. As early as the 1930s, Li Jinhui, a famous musician, composed a song "Taohua river is a beautiful nest", which made Taohua River famous in China, Japan and Nanyang. Since then, Taohua river has become a paradise for the world. Many people do not know that there is a Taojiang County in Hunan, but they know that there is a beautiful Taohua River in Hunan. Therefore, as early as 1986, the State Council approved Taohua River as a tourist scenic spot open to the outside world. Taohua river has a mild climate and is rich in Phyllostachys pubescens. The county has 800000 mu of bamboo forest, ranking first in Hunan and third in China. It is a famous "hometown of bamboo" in China. Since the reform and opening up, Taojiang people have made great efforts to develop eco-tourism, and have successively developed and built eight ecological scenic spots, including Taohua River, Fenghuang mountain, Taohua lake, minnu mountain, Majitang, Fuqiu mountain, Luoxi waterfall, Taohua River bamboo sea, etc.

General situation of River Basin

The main peak of the mountain is 375 meters high. It is located on the North Bank of Zijiang River, 15 kilometers away from the county seat. It is composed of seven peaks, big and small. The mountain looks like a beautiful bathing beauty who lies on her back for a nap. There is a spring behind the mountain. Local people say that drinking the water from the spring makes the girl's skin more beautiful, and the old people delay aging. Every March in the spring, all kinds of azaleas are in full bloom, and the scenery is really gratifying. Tianwentai, also known as Fenghuang mountain, is located where the Taohua river flows into Zijiang River. It is said that Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet of Chu in the Warring States period, was sent here to write the famous Tian Wen. Tianwen pavilion was once built on the mountain, but now there is only a monument. There is a huge stone stretching to Zijiang under the mountain. It is said that Qu Yuan once fished here, and later generations called it Qu Zi Diaoyutai. 2.5km away from tianwentai, there is a garden cave surrounded by mountains. It is said that Qu Yuan lived here. 35 kilometers south of Taojiang County, there is a Taohua lake with a water surface of more than ten thousand mu. It is a reservoir that can store 70 million cubic meters of water. From the end of March to the beginning of April, peach blossoms bloom along the coast, and the water reflects the color of flowers. Ziliang rock above the dam is said to be a man named pan Ziliang who became an immortal in the northern and Southern Dynasties. Eight characters are engraved on the stone wall: "stone breaks the sky, fairy mountain is the first"; many small islands in Taohua Lake float on the water, and they are happy to go boating. Taojiang is a famous bamboo town in Hunan Province.

Therefore, countless celebrities and scholars like to visit Taohuajiang bamboo sea when they visit Hunan. In the 1960s, Tao Zhu, a proletarian revolutionary, toured the bamboo sea for more than half a day. He called on Party members and cadres not only to learn the style of pine trees, but also to follow the spirit of Nanzhu. In the winter of 1992, Comrade Wen Jiabao, then member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and vice premier, visited the bamboo sea and happily wrote down the four words "hometown of Nanzhu" to praise Taojiang bamboo town. In the summer of 2003, the 87 year old former vice chairman of the Military Commission, general Zhang Zhen, saw the beautiful scenery of the bamboo sea and couldn't help rewriting the Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo's bamboo chanting poem: "it's better to eat without meat than to live without bamboo. Taojiang has both, and the world is satisfied.". Even in the TV series "Legend of the new white lady", Hong Kong movie star Chen Meiqi, who plays Xiaoqing, swam across the bamboo sea and happily told reporters: "Peach Blossom River, green mountains, green bamboo, beautiful water and beautiful people. When I return to Hong Kong, I have to ask my parents why I was not born in the Peach Blossom River."

In 2000, Taohuajiang bamboo sea was designated as a provincial forest park, and in 2003, it was rated as a national AA scenic spot. The good ecological and cultural tourism environment has attracted tourists from home and abroad. In 2005, the number of tourists has exceeded 250000. In August 2005, the Taohuajiang international ecological and Cultural Tourism Forum opened in Taohuajiang bamboo sea, further building Taohuajiang Bamboo Sea into an international ecological and cultural tourism demonstration base.
