Zhujiajian Island

Zhujiajian is the hometown of China's international sand sculpture. It is famous for its natural landscape of sand and stone. It integrates sand, stone, sea and Buddha. On the island, there are continuous sands, rippling blue waves, steep rocks, staggered caves and reefs, enchanting sea light, wide forests, endless tides, seagulls and silverfish.

Zhujiajian is a national scenic spot, located in the southeast of Zhoushan archipelago in Zhejiang Province. It is also known as Putuo Mountain National key scenic spot with a distance of 1.35 nautical miles. It is an important part of Putuo golden triangle, the core tourist area of Zhoushan Archipelago. Zhujiajian island has unique natural landscape and rich tourism resources. The development of Zhujiajian tourism area was started in 1988. In 1993, Zhujiajian development and construction management committee was established, which is responsible for the implementation of the protection, planning and construction of 28.8 square kilometers of national scenic spots. In 1998, the Zhujiajian Scenic Tourism Management Committee was established and worked with the Zhujiajian town government. Under the leadership of the municipal and district governments, the integrated management of the whole island was implemented. In order to develop Zhujiajian scientifically, Zhejiang Institute of urban and rural planning and design was entrusted in March 1993 to compile the master plan of Zhujiajian, Putuo District, Zhoushan City. In November 1998, the tourism development plan of Putuo Zhujiajian national island ecological park was compiled. In 2000, Shanghai Tongji University was entrusted to compile the master plan of Zhujiajian from 2000 to 2030. Since then, Zhujiajian scenic spot has embarked on a scientific development path of combining the development and utilization of scenic spots with the reasonable protection of resources.

The first China Zhoushan international sand sculpture festival held in 1999 created a precedent for China's sand sculpture art and tourism activities. In September 2001, when the third China Zhoushan international sand sculpture festival was presented with a brand new look, everyone marveled at the greatness of human art.
