Zhenyuanlou, commonly known as Gulou, is located in the center of Zhangye City, where four main streets meet. It is the largest existing Gulou in Hexi corridor.
The drum tower is built in imitation of the bell tower in Xi'an. It is square in plane and built on a brick altar. The bottom of the platform is 32 meters wide and 9 meters high. The base is more than 30 meters from the top of the building. The tower is a three-story wooden tower with cornices and corners. It is elegant and solemn. It is a traditional Chinese architecture. There is a cross hole downstairs, leading to the East, West, North and south, through pedestrians and small vehicles. A plaque is engraved on the top of the cave gate, dongxusheng, xijiacheng, Yingxun in the South and Zhenyuan in the north. It is only open to the public during some festivals and exhibitions, and the ticket price varies according to the exhibition.
