Deshengkou is located 80 miles north of Datong City in Shanxi Province. It is an important pass of the outer Great Wall. Beijing Baotou railway and the Great Wall meet here. Shanxi and Inner Mongolia provinces are divided here. In 1539 A.D., Deshengkou fort was built in South Sanli of Deshengkou. "The fort is two Li square, three Zhang high, two Zhang thick, and two gatehouses.".
The Ming Dynasty entered into an alliance with the Mongolians to develop trade and turn the war into a new situation of national unity. At the same time, the great wall and fengdui in Datong area have lost their original defensive function and become a link of national unity as a symbol of safeguarding peace. This peaceful situation has been maintained for more than 60 years. At that time,
Deshengbao is the main market for trade. Through this market, silk, tea, beans, rice, grain and other goods from the Central Plains can be transported to Mongolia, northwest and other minority areas; cattle, sheep, horses, fur and other goods from the minority areas and Mongolia can be imported into the Central Plains. Through trade, the two sides can not only benefit each other and exchange needed goods, but also protect the local people from the disaster of war. Today, despite the vicissitudes of the times, deshengbao is still the transportation hub of the two provinces of Inner Mongolia and Shanxi, and also the commercial distribution center of the two nationalities of Inner Mongolia and Han.
