Fengyi gate

The name of Fengyi gate comes from the book of songs. It is the only moat in the four gates, surrounded by flowing water and full of ancient flavor. The whole city is northeast to southwest. Among all the cities in Taiwan, only Fengshan old city can accommodate a mountain in the city. The purpose of doing so is to strengthen the defense function and keep a commanding position to defeat the enemy. In the arrangement of the gate of the old city, the east gate is located at the midpoint of the east wall, which is the entrance to the old city of Fengshan and the new city. In the past, soldiers stationed here to attack and defend and supply military supplies.

Fengyi gate

Fengyi gate is also called the east gate of Fengshan county. It is now a first-class historic site in Taiwan. Located at the intersection of Dongmen road and Chengfeng Road, in the middle and rear of Dayi. Dongmen road in front of the gate used to be the main road leading to Yutou Street (now Fengshan City).

The city wall of the east gate has maintained a relatively large scale. There are still hundreds of meters of city walls on both sides of the gate, and its upper carriageway is paved with red bricks. It is rare to have a footpath entrance, and the portal structure of the footpath entrance is still there. The moat outside the city is still intact, and there are bridges across it. However, the Xieshan ridge style tower no longer exists, leaving only the tower base. A green belt has been built around the east gate and the city wall. On the other side of the green belt is a large area of state-owned residential community reconstructed from a family village. Every morning and sunset, it becomes the best place for residents to take a walk. And the recent moat landscaping project has been completed.

In the early years, Dongmen was painted as a forbidden area because it was a waste warehouse of Guishan fortress of the Navy. As a result, there was no one to maintain Dongmen and there were many vines in the city. In recent years, the barracks retreated more than ten meters, and the east gate was rediscovered. After renovation, it became what it looks like today.

The seat of the east gate is 16.9 meters wide and 8.3 meters deep. There is a women's wall (the small wall on the wall) on the outer edge of the gate, and there are colored paintings under the women's wall. There are nine battlements on the city wall (short concave convex wall made of brick on the female wall), and the battlements are in the shape of a curved ruler at the corner. There are arrow holes in the middle of the battlements, which are used by soldiers in the city to see the enemy.

The bucket arch, the shaft hole and the bolt hole are made of granite. On the top of the door opening, the outer forehead is titled "Fengyi gate"; on the inner forehead is titled "East Gate", with the first paragraph "construction started in Yangyue in the year of Daoguang Yiyou and ended in Liyue in the year of bingxu", and the second paragraph "supervising Prime Minister Chen Kun and persuading Prime Minister Liu Yizhong to donate".

The wall is made of Zigu stone, each block is hexagonal, like a beehive, with strong fixation force, which can avoid the lateral movement during the earthquake.
