Shangwu gate is a gate of Xi'an city wall and the westernmost gate of the north city wall. It opened after the founding of the people's Republic of China. Together with morality, diligence and thrift, they express the Confucian values of "good morality, martial arts and fitness, diligence and Thrift". Now inside the gate is the third Northwest Road, and outside the gate is Gongnong Road.
Martial arts gate
Shangwu gate, the gate on the north side of Xi'an city wall, formerly known as "northwest three road air defense gate", is located in the west of Anyuan gate on the north city wall, and now at the north end of northwest three road.
In 1939, an air defense gate was opened at the north end of the third northwest road. At the beginning of its construction, it was proposed to be named "Northwest Gate" or "Huaiyuan gate", but failed. In 1966, it opened a gap. In 1996, the gap was repaired and four holes were built. Because the west side of the gate is the martial arts learning Park of the Qing Dynasty, it is called "martial arts gate".
Ancient city gate
Shangwu gate is the westernmost gate on the north wall of Xi'an city wall, commonly known as the small north gate. It is the youngest gate among the eighteen gates. Martial arts learning Park
In the west side of the gate is the martial arts garden, which is a place name left by the Qing Dynasty. Because it is in the northwest corner of the city, it is also called Xiwu garden. Xiwu garden, also known as beixuechang, was the place where the governor of Shaanxi Province, who was in charge of the military and political affairs of Shaanxi Province in Qing Dynasty, reviewed the green camp soldiers according to the Convention. Not only that, Emperor Kangxi also personally visited the martial arts garden to review the army. Kangxi once wrote a poem "Chang'an Xing" to express his feelings about this western tour. The poem also describes the parade: "the rivers and mountains are extremely dangerous, the ancient golden soup, and the scale of the capital dates back to Han and Tang Dynasties. The land and sea are rich and fertile, and the wind of Qin Dynasty is fierce, which is called Yanjiang He read about the training of the three armed forces and came to court to seek the vassal kings. "
In the Qing Dynasty, the martial arts learning park also played another important role - the martial arts examination place corresponding to the Gongyuan, which was a stage for many dreamers to show themselves. After the outbreak of the revolution of 1911, the Qing government was overthrown, and the martial arts academy was no longer the reading place of the Qing military academy.
Guangren Temple
In the martial arts gate, there is a Guangren temple on the northwest side of the martial arts garden. It is the only Tibetan Buddhist temple in Shaanxi Province. It has a history of more than 300 years, full of ancient flavor. It was built in 1703 after Emperor Kangxi's western tour to strengthen national unity and consolidate the unity of multi-ethnic state power.
