Located in Wangjiawan, north of Zijin Mountain, taipingmenwai, Nanjing, the cemetery was built in 1932 by the Aviation Department of the military and Political Department of the Kuomintang government. At the beginning, more than 30 aviation martyrs, such as Huang Yuquan and Wu Minghui, who died for their country during the Northern Expedition and Songhu Anti Japanese war during the period of the 1911 Revolution. Before the fall of Nanjing in 1937, 24 air force martyrs including Liu Cuigang were buried. In 1948, the remains of pilots during the Anti Japanese War and the civil war were moved here. The cemetery, which faces north and South and is built close to the mountain, has buried more than 100 aviation martyrs, including four Soviet pilots and one American pilot. In 1992, it became a cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing.

Aviation martyrs cemetery is located at the north foot of Zijin Mountain in Nanjing City, surrounded by green pines and cypresses. There is a stone tablet in a pavilion at the entrance, which is engraved with Dr. Sun Yat Sen's inscription: "aviation saves the country". In the center of the memorial square stands the magnificent monument of Anti Japanese aviation martyrs.

The air martyr cemetery was built in August 1932. During the Japanese occupation of Nanjing and the ten years of turmoil, the cemetery was seriously damaged. In 1985, the state funded the restoration of the cemetery according to the original design drawings. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Anti Japanese War, new monuments were completed. The title of the main monument is "monument to Anti Japanese aviation martyrs", inscribed by general Zhang Aiping. It became a cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing in 1992 and a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province in 2002. "Anti Japanese aviation monument" is the largest aviation martyrs memorial complex in the world.
