Twelve caves in Yanshan

There are a series of limestone caves in the cliff of Yanziji along the Yangtze River in Nanjing City, which are called the twelve caves of Yanshan in history. In fact, more than that, all of them are caused by the erosion of the river. Toutai cave is a few kilometers south of Yanziji. There is a Buddha Hall in the middle of the cave. Twelve caves in Yanshan

Houzi Cave (Houzi cave)

"Houzidong" is said to be written by Liu Bowen.

Folklore says that a long time ago, there were two orphans and widows in Zhenjiang, who lived on the two Mu mountain left by their ancestors. Unfortunately, two acres of mountain area was favored by a rich man and forcibly occupied as his own cemetery. A few years later, the orphan grew up. The rich were afraid that the orphans would take revenge on their land, so they designed to frame the orphans, bribed the county magistrate for favoritism, and sentenced the orphans to exile. It is said that Fahai cave is connected with Houzi cave, and there are 66 difficulties in it. After the orphans were sent to the army, the widowed mother broke her heart. There is no place to plead the great injustice. The old man walked from Zhenjiang to Houzi cave in Nanjing. She stayed at the mouth of Houzi cave all day, looking forward to her son's return. I don't know how many years later, this lonely old man finally died in the anxious and long waiting. As a result, later people called this cave "Houzi cave", and later evolved into "Houzi cave".

Some netizens think that since the origin of the name of Houzi cave is related to Buddhism, the word "Houzi" should refer to the lion, which is a classic of the lion roar in Buddhism. The Bodhisattva in the cave also rides a lion, so it should be Manjusri Bodhisattva.
