The origin of the name
In the first year of Jianwu (317) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Sima Rui, the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, crossed to Jinling because of the "eight kings' rebellion" in the north. When he first crossed the Yangtze River, "he saw that this mountain range is continuous, far away from the stone, and the pass on the Zhenjiang River, so he named it Lulong (Lulong on the Hebei Great Wall Line) This ridge is like the Lulong village in the north, so it was named "Lulong mountain". The name of "lulongshan" has gone through nine dynasties including Eastern Jin Dynasty, Southern Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Qi Dynasty, Liang Dynasty, Chen Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty for more than 1000 years.
In 1360, Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, commanded an ambush of 80000 troops in this mountain and defeated his rival Chen Youliang 400000 troops, which laid the foundation for the establishment of Nanjing as the capital of the Ming Dynasty.
In September of the sixth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, visited Lulong mountain and renamed it "lion mountain". Three months later, the reason for the change of name was stated in Yuejianglou Ji, which was written by him himself: "a peak is abrupt, smoke invades the Han Dynasty, shortsighted from a distance, and the shape of lion dragon (the alias of lion), so it is named Shizishan." Since then, "Lion" has replaced "Lulong".
