Built in the late Qing Dynasty, covering an area of only 140 square meters, it is the smallest Suzhou garden found now. In the west is the residence of the owner of the garden. Between the residence and the pocket garden, there is a moonlit door with a plaque of "Brocade nest". The entrance to the garden is a barrier made of Lake stones. Around the Lake stone, there is a pool in the center. Along the pool, there are uneven stones. There are flower beds under the garden wall, and there are flowers and trees such as osmanthus and rose shade. The walls are covered with vines. In the west of the garden, the stone hill is built by the wall, and the highest in the northwest corner. There is a small wooden pavilion on it, named Kuocang Pavilion. It is the only building in the garden. The pavilion is equipped with couch, wall cabinet, Bogu frame and gooseneck chair. Under the couch, there is a path leading to the cave at the foot of the mountain. Although the garden is small, it has a compact plan, with proper proportions of rocks, pools, pavilions and other scenery. It is an outstanding private garden in Suzhou.
Remnant grain Garden
Remnant grain garden is a classical garden building, located at No. 34, zhuangjiaqiao lane, Suzhou city. It was built in the Qing Dynasty. The residential area is 2390 square meters (5.02 mu), including 140 square meters of garden (0.21 mu). There are three residential areas. Foyer, sedan hall, hall, back floor and flower hall are relatively complete. A garden in the north of the house was abandoned early. Remnant grain garden is located on the east side of East Road Flower hall, formerly known as east garden. Wu daiqiu named "Canli" after the sentence meaning of Li Yu's "Hongdou pecks the remnant parrot's grain".
History of Landscape Architecture
It was built in the Qing Dynasty. Guangxu period is a part of a salt merchant's residence in Yangzhou, which is called Dongyuan. Yao Dalai
. In 1929, Wu daiqiu, a painter, changed his name to "remnant grain"
His son Wu Yangmu lived here. Now it is the residence of Wu's descendants. In 1980, it was listed as a restoration project and protected object, and in 1998, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Suzhou.
Landscape layout
The total area of the garden is only 140 square meters, but it can make full use of the space to form a zigzag and hierarchical landscape with half Pavilion, rockery, pool, flowers and trees. A pool was built in the center, and lakeshore and rocky rocks were built on the edge. Along the wall, a flower stand was set to plant osmanthus, rose and other flowers and trees. The wall is also covered with vines. In the west of the garden, the wall overlaps Huangshi mountain. The highest is in the northwest corner, and there is Kuocang Pavilion on the top of the mountain. The pavilion is the only wooden building in the park. It faces the pool on both sides and the residential gable on the other side. It also has a door to connect with the hall. The pavilion is equipped with couch, wall cabinet, Bogu frame and gooseneck chair. The road leading to the cave below is like a turn under the couch. The garden is compact in plan, fully utilized in space, with proper scenery proportion and full of ingenuity, which shows the gardening talent and artistic creativity.
Landscape Guide
The house enters the garden through the "Brocade nest" of the round cave gate, facing the lake and stone peak as the barrier. After crossing the stone peak barrier of the lake, you can see the pool in the center of the park. To the north of the pool bank, you can see the rockery in the corner of the wall. After entering the cave, you can circle along the stone steps. There is a half pavilion with one corner flying up and the end crossing the top of the mountain. It is called Kuocang Pavilion, which takes the name of Kuocang mountain in Zhejiang Province. There are niches, bookcases and side doors in the pavilion. The garden is accessible from the inner floor, which is the only one in Suzhou gardens. The path in the garden is winding around the pool. Elm, Osmanthus fragrans, Chimonanthus praecox, Ficus pumila and other flowers and trees were covered in the garden. There is Magnolia grandiflora in front of the garden. There is a small Tianchi spring in Huating courtyard, which is 0.6 meters above the ground and does not dry up all the year round. There are five square stones embedded in the wall.
