Huazhi Temple
Huazhi temple is Huashi mountain, 7 kilometers northwest of Qionglai city. It was built in the Tang Dynasty. After more than 1200 years of great changes, it has survived. The inscription on the statue of Huazhi temple was written by Ma Yu, the imperial envoy to the front hall of Yilang in the 14th year of Zhenyuan period of Tang Dynasty. It is recorded that the statue was molded by the monk CAI of Zhangjing temple in Chang'an.
Brief introduction of Huazhi Temple
Huazhi temple is located in Huashi mountain, 7 kilometers northwest of Qionglai city. Among them, the exquisite stone Buddha statues were built in the Tang Dynasty. Although they have undergone great changes for more than 1200 years, some of them have survived. There are 1106 inscriptions on the statue stele of the temple, which was written by Ma Yu, the imperial envoy of the front hall of Yilang in the 14th year of Zhenyuan period of Tang Dynasty. It is recorded that the statue was made by the monk of Zhangjing temple in Chang'an. In the fourth year of Dali (769 AD), Emperor Zong Li Yu of Tang dynasty built Zhangjing temple in Chang'an. He once granted Seng Cai the title of master Yide and taught "Gangwei" in the temple. Therefore, Seng CAI was known as "Shengchi shangguo and Shendu". During the reign of Zhenyuan, with the will of Tang Dynasty, he crossed the Shu Road of Qinguan and cooperated with the officials of xinanjie town to carve Buddhist statues and preach Buddhism in Qionglai. Huazhi temple statue stele is a rare material for the study of the Buddhist history and statue age in Qionglai.
The statue is located in the middle of Zhuxi lake reservoir. It was first built in the 14th year of Zhengyuan (798). A total of 7 niches, 38 meters in length. The largest is the statue of standing Buddha, 4.2 meters high. The other two niches are thousand Buddha niches, which are two groups of huge relief small Buddhas. There are 21 rows of small Buddhas in the right niche, 45 in each row, 945 in total; 20 rows of small Buddhas in the left niche, 40 in each row, 800 in total, 1745 in total.
Huazhi Temple cliff statue
Huazhisi cliff statue is located in Huashi mountain, about 5 kilometers northwest of Qionglai City, Sichuan Province. The statue was first carved in the 14th year of Zhengyuan period of Tang Dynasty, and was created and engraved by Ma Cai, a monk of Zhangjing temple in Shangjing city. The original scale of the statue was quite large, and now there are only 10 niches, with a total length of 32.8 meters. It is composed of many Buddha statues with simple clothing, light and smooth lines, rigorous layout, powerful and mellow knife technique, which fully reflects the traditional style of the statues in the Northern Wei Dynasty and the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
