Dinghai District, under the jurisdiction of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the East China Sea, at the intersection of the Yangtze River Estuary and Hangzhou Bay. Historical evolution
In the Neolithic age, there were human beings living and reproducing here in Dinghai District. On the original village site of ma'ao Town, the mysterious and splendid "island Hemudu culture" was created.
In the spring and Autumn period, Dinghai belonged to Yue, which was called "Yongdong" (east of Yongjiang River).
In 738 ad (the 26th year of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty), wengshan county was established.
In 763 ad (the first year of Guangde), the county government was abolished.
In 1073 (the sixth year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty), the county was set up again and renamed "Changguo county". In the early Yuan Dynasty, the county was upgraded to a prefecture.
In the second year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1369), the state was changed into a county; in the 20th year of Hongwu, Changguo county was abandoned. By the early Qing Dynasty, the people had moved twice.
In 1688 (the 27th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty), Dinghai county was established.
In 1841 ad (the 21st year of Daoguang), Dinghai county was upgraded to Zhili hall.
In 1911 (September of the third year of Xuantong), Dinghai Zhili hall was changed to Dinghai county.
In 1949 (the 38th year of the Republic of China), Wengzhou county was established in Daishan, Daqu and other islands of Dinghai county.
On May 17, 1950, Dinghai was liberated, Wengzhou county was abandoned and merged into Dinghai County, which is under the jurisdiction of Ningbo.
In 1953, with the approval of the Government Affairs Council, Dinghai county was divided into Dinghai, Putuo and Daishan counties. In the same year, Zhoushan Commissioner's office was set up to lead Dinghai, Putuo, Daishan and Shengsi County, which were divided into Zhejiang Province by Jiangsu Province.
In 1958, Dinghai, Putuo and Daishan counties were abolished and Zhoushan county was merged.
In April 1962, Zhoushan county was abolished, Dinghai County, Putuo county and Daishan County were restored, and Daqu county was established. In May, Zhoushan Commissioner's office was restored.
In March 1967, Zhoushan district was changed to Zhoushan district.
In January 1987, with the approval of the State Council, Zhoushan Prefecture was abolished and Zhoushan City (prefecture level city) was established. On March 14, Dinghai county was renamed Dinghai District (county level), which is subordinate to Zhoushan City.
In September 2004, Lincheng street was managed by Zhoushan new city management committee entrusted by the district government.
In May 2008, Jintang town established Jintang development and Construction Management Committee of Zhoushan City, which is authorized by the Municipal People's government to exercise relevant municipal economic management authority and county-level social administrative functions within its jurisdiction.

In October 2013, Dinghai District carried out administrative system reform. To abolish Changbai Township and Xiaosha town and establish Xiaosha sub district office; to abolish Cezi Township and Cengang town and establish Cengang sub district office; to abolish BeiChan Township and Baiquan Town and establish new Baiquan Town; to abolish ma'ao town and establish ma'ao sub district office; to abolish Shuangqiao town and establish Shuangqiao sub district office.
