The patio, the door hall, the wing room, the window bars made of mahogany varnish, the desk, the table, the cabinet, the big bed and the furnishings in the room remind us of the busy life scenes of the Zhu family.
The main hall of the main hall is Zhu's living room. On both sides are Zhu Ziqing's parents and children's houses. Xixianfang is Zhu Ziqing's mother's bedroom and Zhu Runsheng's study. The second entrance of the former residence is the sequence hall and exhibition hall.

Zhu Ziqing's former residence, No. 27, Anle lane, was built in the late Qing Dynasty. It is still in good condition today. It has three rooms, one balcony, one contrast, two guest rooms, one gate, one aisle and one patio. It is a traditional folk house of Yangzhou. It was designated as a municipal cultural relics protection unit in 1982 and a national cultural relics protection unit in 2006. Zhu Ziqing (1898-1948), formerly known as Zihua, was named Peixian and named Qiushi. His ancestral home is Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. He was born in Donghai County, Jiangsu Province. His grandfather and father both settled in Yangzhou. He graduated from Jiangsu No.8 Middle School (now Yangzhou middle school) in Yangzhou, and later worked as a teacher in Yangzhou. Therefore, he is a native of Yangzhou.
"In the world, Yangzhou is the third part of the moon night and the second part of the rogue." Yangzhou, an ancient land moistened by the Grand Canal, has a long history and is full of talents. The narrow lane you just walked through is called Anle lane. The former residence of Zhu Ziqing, a famous modern essayist, educator, poet, scholar and democratic fighter, is located in the 27th courtyard of this alley.

When I came to my former residence, the first thing I saw was the plaque of "Zhu Ziqing's former residence" hanging above the door opening, which was inscribed by Jiang Zemin.
Installation of scenic spots
Juxtaposed on the right are Zhu Ziqing's study and bedroom. It is also the new house of Zhu Ziqing and his wife Chen Zhuyin (in early 1931, Zhu Ziqing and Chen Zhuyin were engaged, and then Zhu Ziqing went to Europe to study. After returning home, he held a wedding in Shanghai, and then took his new wife back to Yangzhou to live here. The bookcase, pipe and four treasures of the study on display in the house are the relics of Zhu Ziqing's life donated by the descendants of the Zhu family. Now they have become precious cultural relics.

The wooden chairs, desk tables and eight immortals tables of the Qing Dynasty are the daily furniture of the Zhu family. The table clocks, vases, stone screen ornaments, candlesticks and Avalokitesvara are common furnishings in the homes of the old Yangzhou residents. It means "peace for life". The couplet of "Kaizhang Tianan horse, Qiyi people, zhonglong" on the wall was written by Kang Youwei in Qing Dynasty. The landscape painting is the work of Wang Yuanqi, a famous painter in Kangxi period. So that the Zhu family everywhere retained the heritage of books. The two big beds, dressing table, desk, cupboard, table and other furnishings in the East chamber were used by Zhu Ziqing's parents and two daughters. There are two pictures on the wall, one is Zhu Ziqing's mother, and the other is Zhu Hongjun, the loving father who let Zhu Ziqing's tears flow down quickly.
Xixianfang is Zhu Ziqing's mother's bedroom and Zhu Runsheng's study.
The second entrance of the former residence is the sequence hall and exhibition hall. In the center of the preface hall stands the statue of Zhu Ziqing. Above the statue is the inscription of Jiang Zemin: "Qingfen Zhengqi passed down in the world.". On the left is a brief introduction of Zhu Ziqing's life, and on the right are Mao Zedong's and Jiang Zemin's comments on Zhu Ziqing's life. In the exhibition hall below, we can also see another inscription by Jiang Zemin on the 100th anniversary of Zhu Ziqing's birth.
The exhibition hall of Zhu Ziqing's life story was officially opened to the public on September 1, 2002.
Zhu Ziqing's former residence has been open for free since new year's Day 2016.
Personage introduction
Zhu Ziqing (1898-1948), formerly known as Zihua and named Qiushi, later renamed Ziqing and named Peixian, is a famous modern essayist, poet, great writer, scholar and democratic fighter. Zhu Ziqing was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, on November 22, 1898 in Haizhou, Jiangsu Province (now Donghai). He moved to Yangzhou with his family as a child. Zhu Zeyu, the grandfather of Zhu Ziqing, was named jupo. His original surname was Yu. Because he inherited the Zhu family, he changed his surname. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, he served as a judge in Donghai County of Jiangsu Province for more than 10 years. His father's name was Hongjun and his name was Xiaopo. He married his wife, the Zhou family. He was a scholar. In 1901, Zhu Hongjun went from Donghai to Shaobo town of Yangzhou. Two years later, the family moved to Yangzhou City and settled in Yangzhou. Zhu Ziqing's wife is Chen Zhuyin. He studied in a private school when he was young and was influenced by Chinese traditional culture. In 1912, he entered primary school.
In 1916, he was admitted to Peking University, and the next year, he was admitted to the Philosophy Department of Peking University. In 1919, he took part in the great patriotic movement of the May 4th Movement and embarked on the road of literature at the same time. He began to engage in the creation of new poetry and prose. After graduating from University, he taught in Yangzhou No.8 Middle School of Jiangsu Province (the predecessor of Yangzhou middle school) and Hangzhou No.1 teachers' College of Zhejiang Province. Since 1925, he has been employed as professor of Chinese in Tsinghua University.
From 1931 to 1932, he studied in Western Europe. After returning to China, he taught in Tsinghua University and Southwest Associated University and devoted himself to academic research. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, he resolutely signed the Manifesto of protesting the U.S. policy of supporting Japan and refusing to receive U.S. aid and various manifestos against the Kuomintang reactionaries.
He died in Peiping on August 12, 1948, aged 50. Zhu Ziqing's former residence, located at No. 27, Anle lane, Yangzhou City, reproduces the scenes of his family life at that time. At the same time, an exhibition on Zhu Ziqing's life story is held to comprehensively introduce his glorious life.
His main works include "the price of life - seventy cents", "white man - the proud son of God", "the massacre of the government", "back", "children", "mourning women", "green", "spring", "Qinhuai River in the sound of oars and lights" and "Moonlight in the lotus pond".
Visit information
Zhu Ziqing memorial hall is open free of charge, with no more than 800 visitors per day, 400 in the morning and 400 in the afternoon. Individual visitors can only get one ticket with ID card or valid certificate, and group visitors must make an appointment 24 hours in advance.
Free opening hours are from Monday to Sunday. Visiting time: 8:30-17:30 in summer (April 1 to October 31) (stop invoice at 17:00); 9:00-17:00 in winter (November 1 to March 31 of the next year) (stop invoice at 16:30).
