Chaotianmen Bridge connects Jiefangbei, jiangbeicheng and tanzishi three central business districts. The bridge is divided into upper and lower layers. Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge was originally called wangjiatuo Yangtze River Bridge. Later, it was named Hongyan Yangtze River Bridge, which was changed to its current name in February 2004.
In December 2004, construction of Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge started. On April 29, 2009, the bridge was officially opened to traffic.

Historical evolution
Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge was called wangjiatuo Yangtze River Bridge.
On April 19, 1998, when Antonio Guterres, then Portuguese Prime Minister, paid an official visit to China in Chongqing, China, Portugal and Australia signed the final agreement on the cooperative construction and operation of bridges such as wangjiatuo bridge on the Yangtze River in Chongqing.
On September 22, 2003, the 15th executive meeting of Chongqing municipal government deliberated the "bridge type scheme of Chongqing wangjiatuo Yangtze River Bridge and Huacun Jialing River Bridge", and the meeting agreed in principle that wangjiatuo Yangtze River Bridge should adopt half through steel truss arch bridge scheme.
From 2003 to 2004, Chongqing decided to name the wangjiatuo Yangtze River Bridge as Hongyan Yangtze River Bridge.
On February 9, 2004, the executive meeting of Chongqing municipal government decided to change the name of Hongyan Yangtze River Bridge to Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge.
On December 29 of the same year, the construction of Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge officially started.
On January 25, 2008, the main arch of the bridge was closed;
On May 18, the whole bridge was closed.
At 5 p.m. on April 29, 2009, the bridge was officially opened to traffic.
On August 2, 2018, Chongqing rail transit loop (Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge section) realized short track connection.
In January 2019, the bridge was announced as "one hundred classic projects in 40 years of reform and opening up" by China Construction Industry Association.

Chongqing Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge is located in wangjiatuo reach of the Yangtze River 1.7 km downstream of Chongqing Chaotianmen (the intersection of Yangtze River and Jialing River). It connects Wulidian interchange of Jiangbei District in the West and huangjuewan interchange of Chongqing Guizhou Expressway in Nan'an District in the East. It is an important river crossing channel connecting the South Bank of Chongqing and Jiangbei central business district.

Design concept
The design scheme of the bridge is called "the gate of the city". At the beginning of the planning, it was positioned as the gate of the city on the river, highlighting the landscape effect. Through this gate of the city, you can see the scene of Yuzhong Peninsula.
In addition to the piers, the bridge is red, with few piers designed to enter the water and little damage to the river landscape. It also integrates the two city cards of Jiefangbei and Chaotianmen. The ship is close to Chongqing City, passing through the "city gate" composed of "Jiefangbei" pier and bridge deck, Yuzhong Peninsula can be seen.
In addition, the two main piers of the bridge were originally designed to look like Jiefangbei, which was cut in half and divided into four columns to hold up the bridge. A viewing platform was originally designed on the pier to view the confluence of the two rivers in Chaotianmen and the night view of the mountain city.
Structural layout
Considering the two-way navigable condition of navigable hole, the bridge adopts three span continuous steel truss tied arch bridge, the middle main span is navigable, and the side spans on both sides are not navigable; the main girder adopts two main trusses, the side spans on both sides are variable height truss, and the middle span is steel truss tied arch. The upper tie bar adopts "H" section, and the lower tie bar adopts "H" section
The main bridge is a composite structure of "King" shaped section and auxiliary tether. The end of steel structure tie bar is connected with the lower chord node of arch rib, and the lower auxiliary tether is anchored at the tie bar end node. The purpose of setting the auxiliary tether is to reduce the tie bar force of the lower steel structure, control the design size and plate thickness within the appropriate range, and reduce the steel consumption.
Design parameters
Chaotianmen Yangtze River bridge includes main bridge and South and North approach bridges. The total length is 1741 meters, of which the main bridge is 932 meters long. The half through continuous steel truss tied arch bridge of (190 + 552 + 190) meters is adopted. The North approach bridge is 314m long and the south approach bridge is 495m long, both of which are prestressed concrete continuous box girder bridges.
The bridge is a double deck layout. The upper deck truss is a two-way six lane urban trunk road with a width of 26 meters. The sidewalks with a width of 2.5 meters are set on both sides of the main truss, and the full width of the bridge deck is 36.5 meters. In the middle of the lower deck is double track urban rail transit, with 4.2m line spacing and 7m wide carriageway on both sides.
The road grade of bridge deck highway is main trunk road I; the design driving speed is 60 km / h; the lane layout is two-way 6 lanes on the upper bridge deck and two lanes on the lower bridge deck; the road clearance height is more than or equal to 5 meters; the width of one lane is 3.75 meters; the width of sidewalk is 2 × 2.5 meters; the rail transit standard is two-way rail transit, the line spacing is 4.2 meters; the design driving speed is 80 ~ 100 km / h; the rail transit standard is two-way rail transit The clear width of the road is not less than 9.2m, and the clear height above the rail top is not less than 6.5m; the design reference period is 100 years.
