Shimen Cave National Forest Park is composed of Shimen waterfall, Bowen ancient village, Chen Cheng's former residence, Kaiyun Linggu, Taizi Shengjing and shigu Caohai. It combines the advantages of green forest, cultural relics, spectacular waterfall and pleasant climate. It is a "fairyland in cave" with the characteristics of clear, quiet, spiritual, ancient, strange, dangerous, wild and interesting. In Li Qian's works of Ming Dynasty, "overlooking from high, washing from clear, concealing from deep, suiting from seclusion, picking from fragrance, singing from strangeness" is a true portrayal of Shimen scenery. It has the reputation of "Shimen cave, a paradise in the world, and Liu Bowen, a masterful thinker".
There are amazing levels of waterfalls with different characteristics. The lowest level falls down from the 1125m cliff. The shape of the waterfall is like vertical training, splashing like jumping beads and scattering like silver fog. Xie Lingyun, the governor of Yongjia in the Southern Dynasty, called it "the first victory in the Southeast". By the Tang Dynasty, Shimen cave had become the 12th of the 36 caves in China's famous Taoist mountains.
From the Southern Dynasties, Tang, song, yuan, Ming, Qing and modern times, literati left precious ink here, and visitors came in droves. Shimen cave cliff inscriptions are the longest span (423-1964) and the highest density of cliff inscriptions in Zhejiang Province.

Development history
As early as the first year of song Jingping in the Southern Dynasty (423), Xie Lingyun, a landscape poet and Yongjia prefect, came to take Shimen cave and was impressed by the wonderful scenery inside. He visited many times and wrote poems. Since then, Shimen cave has become a well-known cave, and many tourists have come here. By the Tang Dynasty, Shimen cave had become the twelfth of the thirty-six caves in the famous Taoist mountains in China. From the Southern Dynasties, Tang, song, yuan, Ming, Qing and modern times, many high officials and scholars came to visit. Xie Lingyun, Qiu Chi, Li Bai, Wang Anshi, Shen Kuo, Lu You, Wang Shipeng, Zheng Fuchu, Tang Xianzu, Ruan Yuan, Yuan Mei, Zhu YIZUN, Chen Shutong, Guo Moruo, Chen Muhua and a large number of celebrities have chanted poems and inscriptions here.
With the increase of tourists, various facilities in the cave are gradually increased. In the Tang Dynasty, Shimen Pavilion, Shimen academy and spray snow Pavilion were built; in the Song Dynasty, xieketang, Guanyin Pavilion and Shimen new pavilion were added; in the Yuan Dynasty, Taiwei hall was built; in the Ming Dynasty, Liu Wencheng temple, Lingyou temple and Baiyi earth temple were added; in the Qing Dynasty, Liu Ji reading room and rest fog Pavilion were built.
During the Ming Dynasty, because Chen Cheng's hometown was in Gaoshi village next to Shimen cave, the national government allocated funds to restore the landscape of Shimen cave twice in 1919 and 1933.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the people's government attached great importance to the protection of the stone gate landscape, and repeatedly funded maintenance, so that a large number of precious cultural relics and ancient buildings can be preserved to this day. In 1963, Shimen cave was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level, approved as a provincial scenic spot in 1985, and listed as a provincial forest park in 1991.
