Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is antique, with different scenery in spring, summer, autumn and winter. It's cool in spring and pleasant in the river breeze. It's hot in summer. It's cool to stand at the end of the bridge in the evening and look at the sea and sky. It's cool to watch the sunset in autumn. In winter, if there is occasional snow, standing at the end of the bridge, you can feel the enchanting world.
Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is the first bridge built on the Yangtze River after the founding of new China. Its main bridge has eight piers and nine holes, with a span of 128M. The steel beam of the main bridge is composed of flat chord rhombic continuous beam. The steel beam is designed with three joints and each joint has three holes. Over the past 50 years, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, which has gone through the vicissitudes of life, stands majestically on the river, shouldering the load of more than 60 cars every minute and a train every six minutes. It has withstood the baptism of numerous floods and gales, and also withstood the test of 76 collision accidents. Experts recently concluded that the bridge piers, steel beams and other main structures can be used for more than 100 years.
Since its completion in 1955, it has undergone a relatively large renovation in 2001. Among the numerous bridges in Wuhan, it is the most reliable and least maintained one.
Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge

It is the first Yangtze River bridge built for both road and rail after the founding of the people's Republic of China. It is also one of the important historical landmark buildings in Wuhan City, and is known as "the first Yangtze River Bridge in thousands of miles".
The construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge started on September 1, 1955; the closure of the main bridge was completed on July 1, 1957; and it was opened to traffic on October 15, 1957.
Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge starts from Chuqin interchange in the west, crosses the Yangtze River Waterway in the upper, and ends at Zhongshan Road in the East. The total length of the line is 1670 meters, and the total length of the main bridge is 1156 meters. The upper deck is a two-way four lane urban trunk road with a design speed of 100 km / h, and the lower deck is a double track with a design speed of 160 km / h. The total investment is 138 million yuan.
Construction process
In 1913, with the support of Zhan Tianyou, National Peking University (now Peking University) Professor of engineering, George Miller, led 13 tummen students, including Xia Changchi and Li Wenji, to Wuhan to carry out preliminary survey and design of the Yangtze River Bridge site. Although the plan was not implemented, its site selection was proved to be very suitable by history, which was different from the following years The second planning site selection is basically the same.
In 1929, the Nationalist government established the Wuhan special municipal government. After Liu Wendao became mayor of Wuhan special municipal government, he invited Walter to China again to discuss the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. Unfortunately, because of the huge cost of building the bridge, the Nationalist government was too busy dealing with the internal military factional struggle, including the war between Chiang Kai Shek and Guangxi, the Central Plains war and other civil wars, and had no time to take care of Wuhan mayor The construction of the Yangtze River Bridge.
In 1935, in view of the fact that the Yuehan railway was about to be completed and opened to traffic, it was necessary to connect the pinghan and Yuehan roads in Wuhan. The former Ministry of Railways considered imitating the Nanjing Railway Ferry built in 1933. However, because the water level fluctuation of the Yangtze River in Wuhan was twice as large as that in Nanjing, the approach bridge project on both sides of the Strait was more difficult, and the railway ferry scheme was forced to be shelved.
In September 1949, the people's Republic of China was about to be founded. Li Wenji, a 63 year old bridge expert, together with Mao Yisheng and other bridge experts, submitted to the Central People's government the proposal for preparing to build Wuhan Memorial Bridge, proposing to build Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge as a memorial building for the success of the new democratic revolution. From the 21st to the 30th of the same month, Mao Zedong presided over the first Political Consultative Conference in Beiping, which passed the proposal on the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge.
At the beginning of 1950, the Central People's Government of the people's Republic of China instructed the former Ministry of Railways of the people's Republic of China on the construction of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, and set up a "Wuhan bridge survey drilling team" to start the preparatory work for the bridge.
On April 1, 1953, with the endorsement of Zhou Enlai, premier of the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government of the people's Republic of China, the former Ministry of Railways of the people's Republic of China officially established the Wuhan Bridge Engineering Bureau to carry out the preparatory construction of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. In July, Peng min led a delegation of the former Ministry of Railways of the people's Republic of China to mose with all the design drawings and technical data of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge In September, the Soviet side sent an appraisal committee composed of 25 bridge experts to repeatedly study and improve the scheme of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. At the request of the Chinese side, an expert group composed of 28 bridge experts headed by Constantine sergeyevich Xilin was sent to Wuhan to provide technical guidance.
In January 1954, the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government of the people's Republic of China held the 203rd government affairs meeting. The meeting passed the resolution on the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, and formally approved the preliminary design of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge Based on the appraisal opinions of the Ministry of communications of the Soviet Union. On February 6, Renmin daily published an editorial "strive to repair Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge", calling on the Chinese people to support Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge Han River bridge construction.
On September 1, 1955, the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge was started as a key project of China's first five year plan.
On May 31, 1956, eight piers of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge were constructed;
In October, the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge completed all the work of sinking the pipe column and drilling from the pipe column to the lower rock plate.
On March 16, 1957, the pier construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge was completed; on May 4, the steel beams of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge were successfully closed, and a celebration meeting was held; on July 1, the installation of the last steel beam of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge was completed, and the closure project was completed;
On September 25, Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge project was completed;
On October 15, Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge was officially opened to traffic.
