Liujiang National Geopark is located in Liujiang Basin of Qinhuangdao. In 2002, it became one of the second batch of 33 Geoparks in China, which were shortlisted together with Huangshan, Emeishan, Yadan of Dunhuang and Hukou waterfall of Yellow River. Liujiang National Geopark is rich in relics, which has completely and systematically preserved the crustal evolution, geographical environment change and biological evolution history of North China from Proterozoic to the present 2 billion years. It is known as "the textbook of geological evolution of North China". It is the largest field practice base of geoscience teaching in China. The park is 12 kilometers away from the urban area of Qinhuangdao, with Liujiang Basin as the center. It is composed of geological relics landscape area, geological landform landscape area and cultural and historical landscape area, covering an area of 186 square kilometers. The Great Wall, Zushan and Yansai Lake in the park are all scenic spots with great ornamental value. The transportation of Liujiang National Geopark is from Qinhuangdao railway station to Shanhaiguan station by bus No.25, then transfer to minibus or bus No.24

synonym
Liujiang National Geopark generally refers to Liujiang National Geopark in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province
Hebei Qinhuangdao Liujiang National Geopark is located in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, adjacent to the Bohai Sea in the South and Yanshan Mountain in the north. In February 2002, the Ministry of land and Resources approved it as the second batch of national geoparks. It is characterized by paleontological fossils, stratigraphic sections, karst landforms and granite landforms. The stratigraphic section has clear boundaries, abundant fossils and well-developed sedimentary structures. In addition, other geological relics are also very rich, including three major rock types, various geological structure traces, folds of different scales, faults of different grades, crumple and traction, as well as river terraces, marine erosion and marine deposition. The park is a good place for geological practice in Colleges and universities and popularization of Geoscience Knowledge to the public.
geographical position
Liujiang Basin, the core part of the Geopark, is located in the north of Qinhuangdao city,
Its southern margin is 12 kilometers away from Qinhuangdao City, with an area of 101.02 square kilometers. It contains typical stratotype sections, stratigraphic sections of fossil assemblage zones, lithologic lithofacies formation sections, typical geological structure sections and structural traces with great scientific research value for tracing geological history. It is rare in China for its small area and rich content. The three sets of strata and three kinds of rocks are widely distributed, all of which are natural outcrops. The strata are complete, the boundaries are clear, the rocks are complete, the fossils are rich, and the sedimentary structures are developed. It is recognized as the "natural geological museum". There are many types of structures. Folds of different scales, faults of different grades, and macro and micro structures such as wrinkling, traction, fracture and dike filling are well developed with clear traces. Various types of tectonic traces are of great significance to the study of the development history and mechanical mechanism of regional crustal movement, and provide a typical tectonic map. There are also metal and nonmetal mineralization and ore spots; Xiangbi mountain, karst cave, patio, cliff and karst ditch formed by karstification; Lidui mountain, water drop, river terrace and other geological relics formed by flowing water.
development
There are many endogenetic and exogenetic deposits in national geoparks, but most of them are not suitable for mining because of their small scale, but they are suitable for popular science teaching. Quaternary cave accumulation is an important base for scientific research and popular science, which can make people understand the prehistoric biological communities, habitats and biological evolution.
Tourism characteristics
The mixed granite formed the geological background of the famous tourist areas of Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan from 2.5 to 1.6 billion years ago; the limestone deposited in the ancient ocean from 540 to 250 million years ago formed the rare karst landforms in North China, such as Xiangbi mountain and karst cave; the Mesozoic granite mountain from 250 million to 65 million years ago was tall and majestic, steep and precipitous, forming the mountain tourism landscape; the modern marine geology It's a marvelous work of nature, which creates the amazing beauty of "Tiankai Haiyue" in Qinhuangdao.
