Notre Dame church, built in 1882, is a typical Gothic chapel in rural Europe. In front of the church is a three story square bell tower with the three characters of Notre Dame carved on the front. Behind the bell tower is a rectangular church and a two-story small building. The French priest who built the second church more than 100 years ago was buried in Notre Dame.
Because the church is not yet open to the public, almost no one comes to it at ordinary times. The whole courtyard is quiet and serene. It's like staying out of the world in a daze to bask in the sun. The gate of the main hall is usually closed. If you want to see the main hall, you have to go when the villagers worship. Climbing on the roof of Notre Dame hall, sitting on the roof and looking at the garden below, the countryside outside and the Gothic bell tower, I feel very comfortable.

brief introduction
Notre Dame hall was built in 1906 by two Belgian priests Feng and Tao in order to commemorate the manifestation of Notre Dame and satisfy the pilgrimage wishes of the believers. Notre Dame hall is a stone hall, 8 meters wide and 25 meters long. A 3-meter-high statue of Notre Dame is erected behind the altar in the hall. Ten stone kilns were built at the foot of the holy hall to house pilgrims from afar. Two rows of stone houses were built at the lower end of the East Square of the holy hall, with 10 rooms in each row hollowed out. There are 8 rooms for priests and nuns, all of which are stone walls and iron tiles. 53 steps, 7 meters high and 14 meters wide, were built on the hillside 20 meters south of the hall. On both sides of Tangbei square are stone platforms 8 meters wide and 12 meters long, which are used as sacrificial platforms for mass in the open air.
historical significance
Mozishan Notre Dame church has a long history of pilgrimage. In 1900, there was a ceremony. August 2 was the day of the ceremony every year. The ceremony began at 3 a.m. when the priest gave mass to the congregation. Because of the large number of people, mass can only be held in the square. All the members knelt down in the square or on the hillside to watch the mass. Mass usually ends near noon. During the "Cultural Revolution" period, the ceremony was stopped until the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held, and the ceremony was resumed in August 1980. The number of pilgrims is more than 20000 every year. Most of them came from other places, including Ba Meng, Hohhot, Baotou, Datong, Yanggao, Tianzhen, Shangyi, Xi'an, Chayouhouqi, Liangcheng, Fengzhen, etc.
