Historical evolution

The port developed into a Polder in the late Qing Dynasty. It was named "port" because it was an important port that Shiqi had to pass to Guangzhou.

In 1949, for the port Township, Zhongshan County is a district.

In 1958, people's commune was established in Gangkou township.

In 1979, it was called port people's commune, with 19 production brigades under its jurisdiction.

In November 1983, it was called port area, which was under the jurisdiction of Zhongshan County. The original production brigade was changed to township.

In December 1986, it was changed into Gangkou Town, and the town government was stationed in dongdachangdi.
