Furong Temple
The Furong temple on Furong mountain can be seen in many places in Shaoguan City. It is in the lower half of the mountain with radar. It takes about 20 minutes to get there from the gate of Xinhua South Road tractor factory and the cigarette factory. The temple is made of blue brick and stone. It is more than 20 meters high, solemn, old and perfect. He is superior and has extraordinary momentum.
brief introduction
The temple is divided into the front hall, the back hall, the ancestral hall and the wing rooms of the monks' houses on both sides, with a total of several hundred meters of buildings. Dragon gecko ridge, eaves carved wall carved, magnificent and spectacular. There is a broad lawn in front of the temple, which can park more than 20 cars (the road has been built to the top of the mountain, and there is a special parking lot on the right side of the temple). Two pairs of stone lions guard the two sides of the gate, and the old and vigorous trees stand in the sky. There is also a small mountain god earth Temple down the lawn. The whole temple is hidden in a lush, sun blocking forest, under the cliffs, which makes the pilgrims have a sense of mystery, reverence and nostalgia.
history
No one can tell the age of Furong Temple by visiting the oldest local elders. No one can tell when Furong temple was built by referring to the oldest local historical materials. In his article rebuilding Furong nunnery, Xiong Shida said: "the works of Furong mountain, such as Shao, began in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 A.D.). It was the place where the other people practiced Buddhism and Taoism." It is conceivable that the day when Furong temple was established must be earlier than the time when these monks came here to practice. That is to say, Furong temple may have existed before BC. In the sixth patriarch's magic altar Sutra, it is recorded that when the abbot of Huineng monk Caoxi Baolin Daochang was often invited by Wei Lashi, Shaozhou capital, to the Dafan temple in the city to give lectures. The hall was always crowded with more than 1000 monks and Taoists listening to the sixth patriarch's Kaiyuan. It is estimated that at that time, there were many monks in Furong temple. The sixth ancestor came to Caoxi in the second year of Yifeng (677 A.D.) of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty, and it opened for 37 years before and after Dafan temple in Shaozhou. In 1991, a tombstone unearthed near Furong Temple recorded that "Fu Mai Guangyao, a scholar living in the south of Qujiang County, the capital of daoshao Prefecture, Guangdong Province, taboo other scholars in Kanghu Buried in Furong nunnery right.... " The signature is "Wanli thirty-two years old second Jiachen Li". In 1573 A.D., the 32nd year of Wanli, it has a history of more than 400 years (this monument is now placed on the stone wall of PINQUAN pool at the back of the temple. When visitors see it, they should not mistake it for the tomb of Chu Shi in Kanghu). Up to now, there are two green mountain steles embedded on the wall of the right corridor of the front hall. One is erected in 1696 to record the "restoration of Zhenwu emperor Hall of Furong mountain". "Zhenwu holy emperor" refers to Taoist Xuanwu. This monument proves that Furong temple was occupied by Taoists more than 300 years ago. At that time, it was a Taoist temple. However, the other one records "the number of the restoration of Furong temple is listed and Ji". Unfortunately, all the other inscriptions are almost unrecognizable and completely weathered. The two steles are the same kind of stone, and this piece has been weathered and corroded to such a degree that I can imagine how old it is.
The more ancient the cultural relics are, the more incredible the illusion is. Because Furong temple had both Buddhists and Taoists, it became the amphibious holy land of Buddhism and Taoism. When monks talk about Buddhism, Taoism comes to preach. Monks come to build temples and Taoists to build temples. It is not surprising that Furong temple still retains the architectural style of both temple and temple, and the carving art of both Buddhism and Taoism, which is a rare miracle in the whole country.
Before the Anti Japanese War, there were several monks practicing in Furong temple. Later, it was abandoned by the war, and even used to be a prison for prisoners. The so-called "paradise" and "fairyland on earth" suddenly became a hell execution ground, and the mountain gate was already broken and empty. It was not until 1983 that the municipal government began to repair Furong temple. However, the abbot could not be invited to manage the temple, so there was only one empty temple. There were no Buddha statues or Buddhist affairs. In 1990, officials of the Municipal Religious Bureau asked for help from the provincial Buddhist Association, which sent master Guangfeng from Guangzhou to manage Furong temple. Through the efforts of master Guangfeng and his disciples over the past few years, with the support and sponsorship of people from all walks of life, the temple has not only made the "three treasures" complete, the Buddha statues covered with gold, the rituals normal, and the incense prosperous, but also built a long cement stone road in the middle of the mountain, and built a car road directly to the temple, providing great traffic convenience for pilgrims. At present, more than 2000 square meters of buildings, such as Zhaitang, Haihui tower, wangguantai and pinquanting, are being planned and built. By then, it will be "the beautiful scenery of Furong, the ancient temple and the famous mountain of Gui".
