Shanghai Conservatory of music is a famous music institution at home and abroad. Its predecessor is the National Conservatory of music founded by Cai Yuanpei, a great democratic revolutionist, an outstanding educator and thinker, and Dr. Xiao Youmei, a music educator on November 27, 1927. From 1949 to 1984, He Luting, a famous composer, music theorist and music educator, served as the president (later honorary president) for a long time and made outstanding contributions to the construction and development of the school. Since 1984, Professor Sang Tong and Professor Jiang Ming have successively served as presidents, and the current president is Professor Yang Liqing. A group of well-known professors and young and middle-aged academic backbones with high reputation at home and abroad have been teaching in various departments and specialties in recent years. For more than 70 years, the college has cultivated talents all over the country and all over the world, known as "the cradle of musicians". As the oldest institution of higher music in China, Hai Conservatory of music has accumulated a solid foundation in the creation, performance and research of classical and serious music in the past 76 years. At present, The college has 11 departments, namely: composition and conducting department, Musicology Department, Piano Department, vocal music department, orchestral department, national instrumental music department, music education department, art management department, sound engineering department, musical drama department and modern instrumental music department, involving 6 major disciplines (composition, musicology, music performance, music education, art management and Music Engineering), and 23 sub disciplines, It includes not only the traditional majors with solid foundation, but also a number of new emerging disciplines and interdisciplinary subjects. In the two disciplines of composition, composition theory and musicology, it has a complete system of the first mobile station of master, doctor and postdoctoral in China. The vast majority of performance disciplines also have master's degree authorization. The college has more than 570 staff, including more than 250 professional teachers, more than 100 professors and associate professors, and more than 1200 students. The college also has a high-level Music Research Institute, a professional music library with rich collection, a leading Oriental Musical Instrument Museum in China, and a unique music publishing house. In the past 76 years, the college has learned from the modern professional music teaching system in Western Europe, combined with the actual situation in China, established a relatively complete professional setting, hired high-level teachers at home and abroad, and formed a fine style of study and teaching tradition of paying attention to teaching quality, strengthening basic subjects, insisting on strict training, being diligent in artistic practice, and having comprehensive artistic accomplishment. The college recruits junior college students, master's students, doctoral students and foreign students. The college has affiliated Secondary Music College (including primary school), and has undertaken Shanghai Yuanpei school and Anshi Experimental Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of music, thus forming a complete music teaching system integrating University, middle school and primary school. In 1988, the college established the "Zhou Xiaoyan International Opera Center", performed in cooperation with opera houses at home and abroad for many times, held Opera master classes, trained opera talents for the country, and promoted the development of opera industry. The college has also set up "International Piano Center", "International string music center" and "modern music society", "Oriental music society", "music and social academic research center", "Sino Japanese music cultural exchange center", "musical drama research center" and other academic organizations to study and explore the characteristics and development laws of music. In October 2002, the State Administration of press and publication approved the establishment of our publishing house. Since the establishment of the college, through the unremitting efforts of generations of experts and scholars, the overall teaching level has been in a leading position in China, and some disciplines have been in the international advanced level. The excellent teaching tradition and style of study have promoted the emergence of excellent music talents. Since the 1980s, more than 600 people have won awards in important international and domestic music competitions. Only from July 2002 to December 2003, 61 people of our teachers and students have won 67 international and domestic music art competitions. Among them, from 1990 to 1993, the students of the Affiliated Middle School of our college won the first place in the international music competition in a row, and was awarded the plaque of "winning the first place in the international music competition four times in a row in three years" by the Ministry of culture. It is the only college in China that won this honor. Since its establishment, the music creation and academic research of the college have attracted the attention of the world.
