Since the establishment of Shanghai Institute of physical education, it has always taken personnel training and knowledge innovation as its own responsibility, and strived to carry the glorious mission of "developing sports, strengthening people's physique, and carrying forward sports culture". It is the cradle of cultivating high-level sports talents in China. The college was directly under the State General Administration of sports and was jointly managed by the State General Administration of sports and Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 2001. It is one of the first batch of national "double first-class" world-class discipline construction universities.

After 65 years of construction and development, the university has formed a complete school running level covering undergraduate, master and doctor. The university is one of the earliest institutions in China to obtain master's degree (1981) and doctor's degree awarding authority (1986). In 2003, it became the first level discipline doctor awarding unit of physical education. At present, the university has a first-class doctoral program in physical education, a master's degree program in physical education, psychology, medical technology (rehabilitation therapy), journalism, and a master's degree program in sports, art, journalism and communication, and public administration.

The school adheres to the policy of "attaching equal importance to characteristics and quality, and promoting discipline construction and personnel training". In the process of actively connecting with national (regional) development strategy, it promotes the development of the school with the times, and refines the direction in the fields of physical education and training, sports health and rehabilitation, sports news and communication, sports industry economy, sports public management and sports art And accumulated advantages. At present, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of education, the key research base of the State General Administration of sport, the Key Laboratory of the State General Administration of sport for sport cognitive evaluation and regulation, the Key Laboratory of the State General Administration of sport for sport technology and tactics diagnosis and analysis, the Shanghai University collaborative Innovation Center for the development of sports industry and the development of human sports ability have been successfully built And guarantee six provincial and ministerial key laboratories (bases) including Shanghai Key Laboratory. With the approval of the State Council, the State General Administration of sports and the Shanghai Municipal People's government have jointly built a national doping testing laboratory in Shanghai.

After 65 years of development, the level of teaching staff has been significantly improved, the quality of talent training has been continuously improved, and a large number of excellent talents have been cultivated for the development of national sports and industry. One doctoral thesis won "national 100 excellent doctoral theses", more than 10 master's and doctoral theses won "Shanghai graduate excellent achievement (Dissertation) Award", and undergraduate scientific and technological innovation works won many national "Challenge Cup" awards. The school has established a teaching institution "Yunrui school" to cultivate top-notch innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and explored the training mode of sports innovative and entrepreneurial talents. "Facing the major needs of the country, creating the training mode of sports rehabilitation combined with medicine" won the first prize of 2014 national teaching achievement award of higher education.

In the past five years, the total amount of scientific research funds is nearly 100 million yuan; more than 70 projects of National Natural Science Foundation and national philosophy and social science foundation, 4 projects of national science and technology support plan; 3 second prizes of national science and technology progress award, 3 humanities and social science awards of the Ministry of education, 2 first prizes of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award; SCI, SSCI, a & amp; More than 300 papers were included in HCI, and more than 1300 Chinese papers were included in CSCD and CSSCI.

The discipline has a number of famous scholars and industry coaches and referees, including the distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars from the Ministry of education, the distinguished professor of Oriental Scholars from Shanghai universities, the foreign academicians of the National Academy of Sports Sciences, senior officials of international sports organizations, senior coaches of national sports teams and senior lecturers of referee training of international sports organizations.

As the only Chinese government scholarship qualified school and the only national sports university designated by the Ministry of education to independently recruit Chinese government scholarship students, the university has established inter school cooperation with more than 70 universities and institutions in 25 countries and regions, and has more than 1000 international students from more than 60 countries, such as the United States, France, Germany, Japan and South Korea. The university has extensively expanded cooperation in running schools to enhance the international level of talent training. It has established the European branch of China table tennis college in cooperation with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It has carried out in-depth cooperation in running schools with international first-class sports universities such as Cologne Sports University, and cooperated with Macao Polytechnic to hold master's degree programs in sports in Macao. At present, China table tennis college has been named as the highest college level affiliated training base of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). It has jointly built the International Handball college and the special training certification center of the ITTF with the International Federation of hands and the International Federation of athletics.

The school has won 5 Olympic gold medals, 1 Olympic silver medal, 5 Olympic bronze medals, 28 World Championships gold medals, 39 Asian Games and Asian Championships gold medals; 3 people have broken the world record three times, 2 people have broken the Asian record 12 times; it has won 18 National Games gold medals for Shanghai. We have trained a number of internationally renowned coaches, such as Shi Zhihao, Sun Haiping, Chen Zhonghe, Wang Yuefang, sun Lian, Shen Fulin, Ma Liangxing, etc. Passed the "national high level sports reserve talent base" field assessment. The national middle and long distance running youth team settled in our hospital. The Basketball Academy and marathon academy will be jointly built with China Basketball Association and China Athletics Association.

The University actively promotes the connotation construction, and has formed a number of unique landmark achievements in China: China table tennis college, the world's only professional higher education institution specializing in table tennis, the only national sports science and technology demonstration park named by the State General Administration of sports, the only national sports university science and technology park approved by the Ministry of science and technology and the Ministry of education, and the world's first national sports science and technology park China Chinese mainland China Museum of martial arts is the museum that displays Wushu history and culture. The only Chinese English sports periodical published by SCI and SSCI database and the national "100 strong journal", "sports and health science", are the first Chinese mainland to introduce the International Table Tennis Federation Museum and the Chinese table tennis Museum.

The school is affiliated to the sports industry branch of Chinese Sports Science Society, Wushu and traditional sports branch of Chinese Sports Science Society and sports health science branch of Chinese gerontology and Geriatrics Society.
