The predecessor of Shangrao Normal College is Shangrao Normal College, which was founded in August 1958. In 1959, it was renamed as northeastern Jiangxi University, and it was closed during the cultural revolution. In 1977, Shangrao Normal College was restored with the approval of the State Council. In March 2000, it was upgraded to Shangrao Normal University with the approval of the Ministry of education and the provincial government. Over the past 20 years, the college has provided more than 26000 graduates for the country. Shangrao Normal University is located in the south of Zhimin Avenue in Shangrao City, a famous historical and cultural city. It is located in the south foot of the former site of Shangrao concentration camp, close to Zhejiang Jiangxi railway, Hengnan railway, 320 National Highway and Liwen expressway. It is the only full-time undergraduate university in Northeast Jiangxi with profound cultural heritage and revolutionary tradition.
