Founded in 2003, the College of literature and economics of Yantai University is a full-time undergraduate level general comprehensive university. It is the first batch of independent colleges approved by the Ministry of education. At present, there are 13000 students in the college. In January 2005, the college passed the Ministry of education's special inspection on the school running conditions and teaching work of the independent college with excellent results. In April 2006, the Ministry of Education inspected the implementation of the "Regulations on the management of students in ordinary colleges and universities" (No. 21 order), which was highly praised by experts; in 2012, it successfully passed the comprehensive inspection and special investigation of Independent Colleges of Shandong Provincial Department of education. The college is located in Laishan District, Yantai City, adjacent to the Yellow Sea in the East and the green mountains in the West. With elegant environment, beautiful scenery and pleasant climate, it is an ideal place for education and scholarship, and also a rare coastal university campus in China. The campus is close to Yantai University, covering an area of 630 mu, with independent, well-equipped school conditions and comprehensive service facilities for students. It has built teaching building, library, college student service center, dormitory building, restaurant, etc., with a construction area of nearly 230000 square meters; it has modern teaching infrastructure such as multimedia classroom, large computer network classroom, voice room, various laboratories, etc.; it has built medium-sized stadium and tennis court, volleyball court, basketball court, etc., with an area of more than 40000 square meters.

The college takes advantage of its close proximity to Yantai University, fully relies on its parent school's high-quality resources, and has formed a stable, reliable and high-level faculty. The college has 901 faculty members, including 636 full-time teachers. 43.8% of them have the title of professor or Associate Professor, 93.4% have the degree of doctor or master, 1 national excellent teacher, 5 provincial famous teachers and 1 provincial excellent teacher. Excellent educational resources have laid a solid foundation for the cultivation of high-quality applied talents.  

In recent years, the college has made remarkable achievements in personnel training. Nearly 20000 graduates have stepped into their jobs. The graduates have high overall quality and strong social adaptability, which have been highly praised by employers. 1800 students have been admitted to graduate schools at home and abroad. The college organized students to participate in more than 20 competitions at or above the provincial level, including the National College Students' mathematical modeling competition, the National College Students' electronic design competition, the National College Students' English competition and the Shandong college students' mechanical and electrical product innovation design competition, and won 23 national first prizes, 78 national second prizes, 136 national third prizes, 2 National Excellent prizes, 12 provincial special prizes and the provincial first prizes There are 77 provincial awards, 135 provincial second prizes, 152 provincial third prizes, 20 provincial excellent awards, 4 provincial winning awards and 4 excellent works awards, with a total of 643 awards. ​

Through open school running, the college has continuously strengthened international exchanges and cooperation. It has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 20 universities in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Through joint training, exchange students, short-term visits and other projects, the college has broadened the international vision of students, and provided students with a variety of foreign studies, advanced studies, and academic services Opportunities for communication. In January 2017, approved by the Ministry of Education (approval number: jwyh No. 5, 2017), the school of literature and economics of Yantai University cooperated with the University of Applied Technology of mezeburg in Germany to hold the major of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation. Taking full account of the advantages of German mechanical and electrical manufacturing, the Sino German cooperative education project introduces the high-quality educational resources from the University of Applied Technology of mezeburg, and cooperates in running schools through the "3 + 1" mode (the "2 + 2" mode can be adopted by the students with excellent German learning). This project is included in the regular full-time undergraduate enrollment plan of our college in 2017. Students who complete the teaching plan required by both sides and complete the credits can obtain the bachelor's degree certificate of the two universities and the graduation certificate of the school of Arts and economics of Yantai University, and can be employed to work in German enterprises.
