Founded in 1994, Beijing New Yuanming Vocational College (formerly Beijing Yuanmingyuan College) is a full-time comprehensive private college based on specialized education, which is supported by a group of scientists and famous professors from Peking University, Tsinghua University and Chinese Academy of Sciences who care about running schools by social forces.

Ma Wanqi, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, and Yang Rudai, former vice chairman, served as the general consultant of the college. Professor Ji Xianlin, a master of Chinese culture, is the honorary president of the college. Nearly 100 academicians and famous experts and scholars have served as consultants of the college.

Due to the outstanding academic performance of the college, the party organization of the college was rated as "advanced grass-roots party organization" by the education and Work Committee of Haidian District Committee of the Communist Party of China, and it is the only private university in Haidian District that has won this honor. The college has also been rated as "advanced non-governmental organization" by Beijing Municipal Bureau of personnel, Civil Affairs Bureau and Municipal Association office. Among the hundreds of private colleges and universities in Beijing, only ten have won this honor. The college has also been awarded the honorary title of "moral education, education oriented" by the Communist Youth League Beijing Municipal Committee. The college now covers an area of nearly 170 mu, with a construction area of 80000 square meters. The predecessor of Beijing New Yuanming vocational college is "Beijing volunteer lecturer group". Since 1992, the group of lecturers has gone to the old revolutionary base areas for many times to give lectures, train teachers, subsidize out of school children, and organize middle schools in the old revolutionary base areas to form friendly schools with key middle schools in Beijing. At the same time, it has laid a solid foundation for the establishment of the college and prepared the backbone of teachers. In 1995, with the support of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the college organized and helped 60 junior high school graduates from 15 old districts to study in 15 key middle schools in Beijing free of charge. The college was responsible for all the living expenses. On June 13, 2007, Beijing Yuanmingyuan college was officially approved by Beijing Municipal People's government as a full-time private college with independent diploma qualification, which was included in the enrollment scope of the national plan and renamed as Beijing New Yuanming vocational school
